You need wider rims to put more tire on the ground effectively. Just putting a wider tire on a skinny rim won't give you what you're looking for. You might also want to look into suspension improvement.

Grip out of the hole improved greatly when I put these Dunlop sport 245 50 15's on.

All you need for a decent launch is better rubber. But the rubber you really need will not fit on those rims. Look into getting some rims that will fit your driving preferences. Perhaps Draglites or Dragstars if all you do is track. And maybe some Cobra R's or tasteful 17's. This way you can easily fit 275's or 285's like I have on the 17X9 Cobra R's, 245's up front though!!!!

Well, assuming those arms are good (no personal experience with them), and your shocks and springs are decent, you probably do need better tires (bigger?). But, putting bigger tires on those rims won't work as well as a set of 15x8/9/10 rims that you put the bigger tires on, putting better tires on will help -- like a drag radial or an ET street type tire if that's what you're looking for, but the size needs to be appropriate.
