Are you asking the max for the rim width, or the max for your car with a given rim?
If it is the fitment on the car, you need to give more info on the rims, because not all 8" rims have the same backspace/offset.
The widest tire that should be attempted on an 8" rim would be the 275, but that doesn't mean it will fit on your car if the backspace/offset measurements are not in the right place.
275 Nitto's will look more at home on a 8" wheel than some other brands. Nitto's tend to run narrow, so if I were to put 275's that wheel width, I'd probaby go with Nitto.
Scott is on the money Im running 17 x8 wheels with Nittos 555 DRs 275/40 in rear they are skinnier than Mickeys and most other DRs by almost an inch in some cases. This is mainly the reason I originally bought them. Now i know Mickeys will fit also but like Scott says the Nittos have hardly no bulge i like the way they look, ive seen Mickeys on same application and it was a little too much bulge for my taste. Also quad shock will not rub, on front im running 245/40
heres some pics
275 is the widest i would mount. It will bulge a bit though, and depending on how stiff the sidewall is, you may notice the rear being a bit squirmy if the sidewalls roll over a bit.
94-95 Cobras came OEM with 255/45/17's on their 17x8 wheels. Starting in 1996, Ford began to use 245/45/17 on them just like the GT's
thanks its the reason why im on my 3rd set of Nitto 555DRs they really dont roll over in turns badly, they are a great street dr good wear & handling for a dr just suck at dragstrip
Couldn't agree more on the nittos. I have mine mounted on 17x9 chrome cobra r's. good street tire but not very good at the strip with a 5 speed. Really have to ride the clutch to get them to hook at all.
