Will 275's Really Fit?

Ok, first let me apologize, I am automobile illiterate and yes, ashamedly I am a guy. I own a 1998 GT Convertible and I"m looking to put new wheels 17X9 on the front and 17X10.5 on the rear with 275's on the front and 315's on the rear. I currently have 245's all around and my concern is that when I turn the steering wheel all the way (either direction) I end up so close to what I think is the front stabilizer bar that it doesn't seem possible that 275's would fit. Everyone says they will, but I'm paranoid and don't want to dump a bunch of money on something that won't fit. Does all of this seem normal (not my paranoia, my car) and will 275's fit!!

i would stay with the 245's on the front.....imo i think the 275's are too wide for the front...

I'm just really confused because I had a tire rep say a 275 would fit on a 17X9 rim on my car, but there just doesn't seem to be enough room??? I've seen pictures of Mustangs with that size on the front and I like the look, just want a little validation before I do something.

oh yeah....the 03-04 cobra had 275 at all corners....stock.

I got 18 x 9 front and 18 x 10 back with 275/35/18 front and 295/35/18 back. No problem.

You heard wrong I was running KDW which run wider as well. I guess maybe if you're lowered like 2", but still havent heard it.

275 is the right size tire for a 9" wheel and they will fit fine.

I have 275 40 17 mounted on stock 03 cobra rims (17x9) all around. They came off stock 03 Cobra. Never rubbed once.

275's will fit just fine, & alot of people run that size on 94-04's, but I personally didnt like the look on my old 95 GT. They looked like the front wheels stuck out with a 17X9 & 275/40/17 tire. I even had 17X10.5's with 315/35/17's in the rear, & the fronts still looked like they stuck out more than the rear??? Its very common on 94-98's though, since they have a narrower rear end than the 99-04's.

I would run a 255/40/17, as they will fit perfect on the wheel, & should sit flush with the fender lip...

go with 255/40's or 265 up front. They fit fine on a 9 inch wheel. However, you will have less overlap from the tire, so if you hit a curb, your wheel will be scratched. You save a tiny bit of weight up front with a more narrow tire. But, the car handles better and will not track as much on uneven pavement and cracks in the road. Bigger is not always better up front.

I have just always been told that a 275 on our cars is a little wide up front.

I just got a OEM setup off a 04 Cobra (chrome 17x9's and 275/40/17's). From what I can tell, they don't rub. I'm gonna have the wheels off sometime soon and I'm gonna check to make sure. The ONLY reason I have 275's is because I can still rotate. With you having 10.5's rear, it isn't a big deal. Epic said it well, stick with 255's. I feel that the 275's up front stick out too far, as mentioned. It's hard to tell from the pics, but here are a couple to show the 275's up front.

275s on a 9" rim are perfect, and a very common size for up front. Not big enough for the rears IMO.

I'm running 265 front, and 295s rear. Check out KDW2s, and dont buy Pilot Sports (they suck).

Seeing how nose-heavy these cars are, I like wide front tires to help avoid understeer.

Here's my buddie's 01 GT. Sorry, but I DO NOT think 275s are too fat for the front. This car looks good.

275/40/17 on all four corners

They look just right on a 9 inch wheel, any more narrow, and the sidewall goes in too far, any wider and they pooch out.
