Will an AL Flywheel help or hurt my times?

Well that's the question. I have to pull the trans to replace an extremely loud TOB and I decided to replace both the clutch (McLeod) and flywheel (figured now was as good a time as any to put an SFI one in) as well. I was just going to get an FRPP billet flywheel, but I ran across a new AL Fidanza flywheel for $240 to my door. It weighs 12 lbs. With my mods, after learning how to drive with it, will it help my times or hurt them? I like that it is lighter and will free up more HP, but if it hurts me launching I'll stick with a billet one. Opinions?

I am not sure but I heard that lighter aluminum p/p actually loose et times. I am not sure why. My buddy with an LS1 bought one and he drag races and it ended up hurting him so he callep them up and that is what they said to him.

I'm a little confused. Do you mean lighter flywheel or p/p (pressure plate)?

from what i know a flywheel helps your acceleration

I understand the principle behind using the flywheel, but what I'm worried about is will it hurt me trying to launch my car (~3500 lbs with me)? If it will then fine, but I just need to know if launching on DRs will be ok and if launching on ET Streets will be ok.

MM&FF did an article on whether a heavier or lighter flywheel was better for drag racing several months back. I can't remember specifics ...but I do remember the conclusion being that the lighter flywheels yielded slightly faster times on the test cars.

Any chance you could find the issue it was in? I have most of this years MM&FF here and would love to read it since I missed it the first time around.
