I just bought a pair of chrome BBK unequal length shorty headers, then came the unexpected 351. Does anyone know the problems i will have running these headers on the 351? i am willing to cut and reweld my exhaust to make it fit, this is on my 82GT with GT40 heads, thanks:SNSign:

Well I guess you could make what you have work if you cut you h-pipe and fab a piece to weld into itto the h-pipe to extend it to reach your 302 shortie headers. I can't say for sure if the 302 shorties are the right angle though. The 351w is wider and it maybe a different angle then the 302. maybe not now that I think of it. Personally I would sell your current shorties and buy the swap headers. An even better idea would be to sell your h-pipe and shorties and get a set of 1 3/4 long tubes and a h-pipe so that the 351w can breathe. I have the 1 5/8's and I have been told time and time again I need 1 3/4 headers.

Mating up to the mid-pipe is the easy part...

302 headers on a 351w block will force the flanges of the header outboard.
Most likely they will hit on the trans tunnel or firewall.

If not, you may still have to deal with steering linkage clearance.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider using 302 headers on that motor.

just my thoughts,

I never gave the steering linkage any thought. Thats a good point. Get the swap headers.
