within the next month I plan on getting the JMS cold air intake & SCT XCalibrator2, my question is, is this something that a novice can do? will i need a tune after it is done? How much do tunes run if i do need one? i have installed an SLP loudmouth how hard is it compared to that, and will i need special tools? thanks in advance

Yes, a novice can put on a CAI and instal a tune, very easy.

Yes, you will need a tune. Tell your dealer (that you buy the Xcal 2 from) that you have a JMS, and he may include some JMS CAI tunes in the deal (all three 87, 91, and 93 octane tunes would be nice, maybe your dealer has the tunes on hand, and will even load them on the Xcal for you. Mine did.)

Tunes can run from "included in the price of the Xcal", to $50 to $75 for "generic but based on a particular CAI" tunes, and even more if you get a custom dyno tune special for your car.

Installing the tune is really easy, just plug into the OBD II, turn the key, and push some buttons. The CAI is a few screw and bolts, and hose clamps, really easy.

Where are you located? Maybe a fellow 05 owner in the area would be willing to help. Stangnut came over and helped with mine.

Enjoy, car will respond much better with the CAI and tune.

i reside in the northwestern part of New Jersey and the stang is do for an oil change very soon, so i guess i could take it to the dealer and ask for the tunes on the "by the way do you..."

Instead of dealer, I should have send "vendor". The Ford dealership will probably not have tuners or tunes in stock. My dealer is actually affiliated with Boss Shinoda, so they do offer all of their parts, but most Ford dealers will probably not have the programmers or the tunes.

ok so the SCT XCalibrator is the device you use to put tunes on your car, and the tunes are sold seperatly (sorry newb) so if i bought the packages off jmschip.com do they include the tunes or no? anyone know a good how to that i could see?

Yes, the Xcal looks like a gameboy, and your tune is loaded on it, which loads it into the car. It also stores your stock tune.

The tunes themselves are just computer programs, and can be bought from a variety of shops, vendors, or just about anyplace that has a dyno and an O5 Mustang w/ the same mods you have. Of course, no tune is as good as what you would get if you took your car to the dyno shop for a true custom tune.

I purchased my Xcalibrator and CAI from JMS chips.
It came with 3 JMS custom programs already installed at no extra cost.
(The Xcalibrator normally comes with 3 programs designed by Superchips)

Not only did the kit save me some $, the programs are awsome.

I made 288 RWHP using their "economy" tune on 87 octane gas.

Do yourself a big favor and spend the extra $25 for the Xcal2!
Once you get the hang of tuning, you may want to experiment a little.

thanks for the info, do the tunes come specific to the packages or are they generic tunes that can be used with any mods?
