Hey guys im wondering if I can run a 17X10.5 rear rim on my stock 245/40/17 tires? I know this is pushing it and may not look the best, but for now will it work? Later what would be a good size to switch to? 265/40/17? I dont want to go too wide. Will there be fender clearence issues? Thanks!

It'd be borderline dangerous but if you can get them to seal I'd say yes. I run 10.5's on the back of mine, and my 275 nitto drag fits...When I had all my tires off, the Nitto Drag 275 was pretty much the same width as my Non-Drag 255's on my fronts. I'd recommend a bit wider tire...I'm only running my 275's til I can afford 315's. It was a chore getting my rears to bead, doesn't look toooo bad, but it definately streched...I'd hate to go through a drive through with the way my car is now...The rear lips and streched tires are asking for curbage. Nittos site even says that the 275 DR's are within spec on a 10.5 rim, but man it's a close call.

Wider, dude

10.5" x 25.4mm/" = 266.7mm

Check out Summit or Jegs - neither will tell you to run a tire nominally less wide than the wheel for drag or track. But each manufacturer measures their track width differently. You just have to go to a dealer and measure for yourself.

I have 315s on 10.5s in back and 275s on 9s in front. I'd be kinda nervous in hard cornering with anything less than 295s on the 10.5s. I've seen a 295 unseat from a 11 (on a Vette) where it was ok on a 10.5 (on a Mustang) in the same corner at about the same speed.

That'll be two cents, please...
