I have an 86 5.0 (obviously) and i have about 74,xxx miles. I bought her back in december to fix up and use as my DD. I already changed the oil once with castrol gtx conventional oil but there was a sale at a local store on mobil 1 and an oil filter. I bought the mobil 1 high mileage fully synthetic oil because i read it has seal conditioners in it so it won't break any seals, and i bought just a FRAM racing HP4 filter. Since my motor is from 86 and is all original and stock, I'm curious to know if switching to this fully synthetic will be ok. So if anyone has experience with all this, I would much appreciate your help. So far all i've done was change my rear shocks/ quad shocks (bitch and a half to unbolt). but please help me with the oil if you can! I dont't want to make a bad mistake...

Synthetic Oil in your car will not hurt a thing. Typically syn oils are so thin there is a slight (although imperceptible) difference to be gained in the milage dept as a result of the decreased windage, and friction, but I wouldn't count on it. If your engine leaks oil anywhere, the thinner viscosity typically will drip more, (the reason for the seal swelling additive) "breaking seals" isn't a byproduct of any oil, blowing seals comes from poor crankcase ventilation, and excessive blow by, typically from worn out rings. But this oil will not fix any of that if you have it.
Bottom line, you ain't gonna hurt anything, It might offer some benefit.

Meh, oil is oil, the fram race filter is just about as good as any other filter. I always use motorcraft filters on my fords but as long as your not using a standard fram filter, and change it in time, you cant be too bad off.

I ran synthetic in my engine up until about 85,000 miles, when I tore it apart for the H/C/I. Still run synthetic in it now, though obviously it has new parts in it now. Absolutely zero problems.

BTW, leaks are not caused by running synthetic oil, that is a myth. Leaks are caused by bad gaskets, plain and simple.

I prefer to run synthetic oil for many reasons, but billions of people run conventional with zero issues. Pick one, use it, and just change your oil and filter when you're supposed to and you'll be OK. Just make sure to run a 5W-30 or 10W-30 ONLY.

It wont hurt anything running the Mobil 1, I would absolutely skip that trash Fram Filter and go with a Motorcraft instead.

+1, I'm a big fan of running the Motorcraft filters.
