I'm a new member but not new to the site, been coming here for answers for awhile now and finally decided to sign up. I'm currently trying to figure out if the valve springs I have will work or not. I have an 89 GT with stock cam (I believe, will be verifying within next couple days), 302 bored 30 over and GT40 heads. I just picked up the heads from the machine shop and he said the springs tested at 100 lbs. When I asked him if they'd be good for my set up he said yes, but what I see online is that GT40 springs wont be good for the 5.0.

Just curious if these will work or not and if not, what springs should I get? What's the minimum seat lbs they should have?

Thank you in advance!!

mikestang63, Thanks for the reference! I am assuming closed too. This is my first engine rebuild so I'm learning as I go. I will call him tomorrow to verify. If it is 100 lb seat pressure closed, will they be good enough?

depends on what cam you have, You match the springs to the cam. If you have anything but a stock cam, you need to upgrade to either Alex's springs or TFS springs.

Ok, good deal and thank for the quick response. I plan on cleaning up the cam tomorrow and seeing what markings are on it. I'll let you know what I find out about that and whether the seat pressure was 100 lbs open or closed.

Mikestang63, they are 100 lbs closed for sure. Got the cam cleaned up in the area where I seen markings and have no idea if it's stock or not. I'm going to try and post a couple pics in a seperate thread and see if anyone can help me identify it. It also tipped over onto the garage floor the other day and some of the journals got nicked up a little bit so not sure if I should even use it anymore.
