will the tranny match

I am not good with mechanics yet, i bought the car to work and learn as i go. i am thinking about buying a 351 block and working on it while the 302 is in the car so i can drive it around. i am probably also going to stroke it. my question is will the transmision match up with a 351 or will i have to replace that too. its aftermarket, i believe its a t-56 at least thats what the guy said i will have to look at it after i get back from here (Iraq). I know there is a lot of work involved in all this but i thought this would be a good car to learn on with the abundance of knowledge and parts for them, its going in a 87gt that will be a weekend warrior. thanks for the help.

as long as you have the correct bellhousing that match's that tranny to a 302 there is no problem matching to a 351w as they use the same bellhousing. the difference is in the flywheel you will have to get one for the 351w that has the same tooth count as the 302's. they are different wieghts.
