Will slp loudmouth catbacks pass emissions/inspection in NJ with stock h pipe on a 97 Cobra? I know they wont pass with an o/r h pipe but i dont want to install them if they wont pass. I might as well just wait. Anyone?
if NJs test is like CA's test, then it shouldnt matter what mufflers you have on. the only time we care in CA is if you get a police ticket for being too loud, then come to a referee station where you get a sound test done. mufflers generally dont have any effect on emissions. there is only one example that i can think of, but i dont think it applies to mustangs.
I've gone through the inspection station in Wayne w/ aftermarket exhausts a few times, and they never said anything about sound. Actually, the inspection guy complimented me on it. You'll be fine.

i think its the positive backpressure EGR. certain types of EGR systems require backpressure in the exhaust to work. when you reduce the backpressure with a freerer flowing catback or midpipe, this type of EGR does not work as well. so it might increase the NOx emissions on a loaded dyno test such as the CA 15/50,25/25 or the more common IM240.
