Well, woke up this morning and found my drivers side window busted out and glass everywhere on the inside! Bastards!!

Fortunatley i found a replacement already with some of the bracket still mounted on the glass. I have the door panel off and im checking this out and it seems to me that i have to drill out the factory rivots going through the glass and remove those bushings. i would have to do this to the replacement window also. I think i would need a different type of bushing to install the replacement glass. One that i can but a screw in to hold the glass in. i noticed on the passenger side, the rivots aren't there. There are phillip head screws in there place. I think that window was busted out several years ago and then it was fixed through insurance at a glass company. I guess my question is am i right on this? Do i use the existing bushings over again and just use screws to fasten the glass in? Will i have to remove any of the weather stripping to get the glass in. (I kinda think i do). Is this going to be to difficult for a Plumber? ( Just Kidding ) I wont start til i hear from someone here.

i dunno if im much help, but i build suv doors on an assembly line for a living.
hope this applies
rivets suck, your going to have to drill them out, and if there are screws there then the window was probably replaced and id use the screws again.
the weather stripping doesnt have to come out i dont thnik, just get some dishwashing soap and smear it all on the upper and lower runchannels that the glass sits in to make the glass go in easier. raise the regulator up so the screws can be accessed through the holes, take out the old glass bottom. and slide the new glass in tipped toward the front of the car. dont let go of the glass bottom until one screw is in because if the glass falls it will break and you will have to vacume the door out. (again) make sure you grease up all the moving parts in the regulator with a heavy grease, and not that white grease shi*

so after i drill out the rivots are the bushing reuseable or will i need a different type. Ones that take screws and not rivots.

I have had to replace the door glass on a couple of Fox bodies and I just drill out the rivets and then I replace them with a short 1/4" bolt.Make sure you use either lock washers or those nuts with the nylon inserts that lock in place.Access is limited behind the window to hold the bolt in place so use a set of needle nose vice-grip style locking pliers to hold the bolt as you tighten it.
