I've noticed a few fellow wingless S197 owners here. Want to hear everyones thoughts on why they got one and how. Thought I'd share mine too.

Basically.. the wife and I needed a second (actually, third) Mustang. I planned for eight months to order one with my bonus, but we decided to hold off to the 08. We were actually going to pay MSRP to get one our way. Pretty much a stripper with the shaker 500 and the interior upgrade. We want cloth, 5-speed, no wing, silver with the basic rims. I figured I'd have the stock rims replaced in a month (looks like it will take a month and a half now ) and planned on the FRPP handling kit to get the stance right.

Course, the 0% on the 06 sold us. But we had to have a 5 speed at minimum. Well, almost every five speed was sold out by the time we called. We got in touch w/ Five Star Ford in AZ, and they searched around. They had a few to choose from. All but two met our specs. But, for some reason, the dealership blew us off and never followed up with us.

Anyway, the next week I tried one last place. All the other dealers had sold out the 5 speeds. This one had a bunch of saleens in stock when we checked the computer at Five Star. But, it was close to my office, so I double checked. Turns out that one of the last 5 speeds they had was listed as a Saleen, but they never delivered it to Saleen. Well, we hopped on it. Best part... it was the exact car we planned on ordering, color, options and wing delete.

Just thought I'd share. I'd like to hear a few a few stories and check out some pics of these rare rides. Pretty much every GT came with a wing (most six bangers too), so we've got some special rides with them in our stable.

My 07 has the wing, but then I got the GT appearence package so I could get the hood scoop also. The only reason I wanted it was because my first car was a 69 Mach one. I loved that car even though it was a worn out POS when I got it. The S197 body looks a lot like it, just my new one will crank on demand and doesnt leak oil. MHO

I'm getting rid of the wing as soon as I can. It makes the arse of the car look even taller and ugly.

I've never liked the wings they put on there. Most Mustang owners I know don't. But my group grew up with the Fox Stangs of '88-'92 and the clean look of the 5.0 LXs.

We mocked the GTs of that era and their over use of GM style body cladding and wings.

The SN95 crowd has argued this to the point of no return.

It all comes down to personal preference or what your endgame plans are for the car.

They all come with unless you order with out. I took mine off after three months and realized after a week it really helps make the look of the car. now I'm happy it does have it.

agreed,,,,, but there are two facts that are indisputable.

#1 the rear spoiler is a drag (literally) that adds wind resistance and decreases fuel economy

#2 they look like crap on a S197 Mustang

edit: (oh sorry, did I really say that?)

Yea, I thought about adding some aftermarket spoiler... but the car just looks more upscale w/o one.

The only reason that I didn't delete the wing when I ordered mine was because from certain angles it helps to camouflage the big black Sirius pimple in the middle of the trunk lid.

I orderd my 07 without the wing. IMO it has a cleaner look. If I ever need a paint job I would shave the door handles, trunk key, and the GT emblems.

I ordered my 06 without the rear spoiler beacuse I think they look WAY better without one. Since day one, I've loved the look of the FR500C Grand Am Cup cars; and they didn't have a wing. The S197 already suffers from "bubble butt", and a wing just makes it even worse (my car has the mirage of setting an inch or so lower than my friends winged 06). The stock wing just doesn't blend well with the retro lines; it just looks like an afterthought. This fastback roofline just flows so well with a flat trunk. The 64-66 fastbacks didn't have a spoiler!!
I just had SO many reasons that I don't like the wing on these cars. I am going for the FF500C look, and that is one of my biggest reasons. The car just looks so clean w/o a wing!

And that is how it should be. I got mine with one. But I am trying to find the least painful way to remove it.

The stock spoiler I think overall looks good. I didn't get one because I plan on adding my own.

The stock spoiler is OK but really just ends up being about the only styling element I'm not a fan of.

I tried to get a spoiler delete (that was my original plan) but my dealer found the exact car I wanted down to the very last option except it had side door guards and the spoiler. The door guards came off easily enough but the spoiler remains.

I was planning on getting a delete and then the CDC ducktail but with the holes not being covered I'm probably going to get the new GT500 wing. It's ducktail esque, a little less HEY LOOK I GOTS ME A WING! and will cover the factory holes.

I prefer the un spoiled look (pun intended) also. My car does have 1 though since I bought it off the lot and everything else about the car is how I would have ordered 1. I may or may not replace it with a ducktail down the road. For now, I'm just enjoying her stock.

I don't like my wing, but it helps cover up the fact that one of my trunk stripes is crooked. My wife did that side.

If it wasn't for the holes i'd remove it. The third brake light is even worse IMO. It's the biggest design flaw on the car.
