Do what I did the first year I had my 'stang. Buy a fwd pos to get you through a few winters and save your 'stang from the winter abuse. I ended up with an '89 Mercury Sable with studded snow tires, and drove it for 3 winters, paid like $1500 for it.

Blizzaks, i pulled out in 3in of snow, up hill. i was very satisfied. got me where i needed to go....all winter. granted, i dont live in new england, but still.
1. just take your time,
2. turn the TC OFF, if you leave it on, you will loose any momentum you might have. your right foot is smarter than the TC.
3. keep the RPMs low
4. maybe some ballast in the trunk? i had 80 lbs of salt in there, all the way in the back, between the taillights, didnt hurt gas mileage enough to notice and still had some room left between the salt and my sub
5. drive smart

Agreed. I have WS-50s, they're good in snow. :nice: Except I don't have traction control! :nonono:
I just get 2 #50lb. bags of sand though as opposed to salt.

i have michelin alpine's for my winter rims, and they saved my ass plenty of times. snow tires can make your car as stable, or even more stable than a regular fwd car. this year i'm going to use my nissan stanza (cops impounded it last winter :( )

Invest like $800 in a beater car, put minimal insurance on it (cost you like $600 per year) and invest in a nice winter cover for the Stang. You will save your car from salt and other winter BS and also keep your miles down.

While blizzaks do rock in the snow -- I made it through the snow last year (in new Hampshire) with a set of Continental ContiExtreme Contacts. They have the best snow rating of any high-performance All-season tire I've ever seen. Highly Recmommended.

My 91 LX was a trooper last winter but that will be the last winter I drive any Mustang. Not worth the abuse on the car or myself. Plus it's really not that hard to find a decent beater for under a grand and save yourself the worries and the depreciation of the car.

wow i could not disagree more. well i guess your tire size may make a difference...last winter i had an 05 audi s4 and they came with those contiextreme contacts(18 in)....right in the owners manuel it said do not use these tires in the snow. the first snow storm with all wheel drive it was like driving on ice skates. i bought the blizzacks and they were unstoppable. had a blizzard, like 2 feet of snow, could not even open my car door, i used the key to open the window from the door, climbed in the window, started her up and pulled right out of my spot and the car was plowed in. And this was in front of my 2 neighbors digging out their ford explorer and tahoe for over an hour. they were so pissed to see me just pull out.

1985 Jetta GL Diesel = $500 have put 22K on it so far...into it for a clutch, cv joint, starter and exhaust......$1200 total doing all the work myself. Can't beat that. I recommend VW's up to 1994. They are really cheap to maintain and reliable as hell. Front rotors are $9.00/pc lol :banana:

I have to ask: How much does traction control help in the snow? My current stang is a rollerskate in the snow. I'm in a situation where I need to buy a new stang or buy something else (not because of the weather). I need to be able to get around in winter. I can't really afford to buy two vehicles. The parking at my new apartment is really tight so I'm concerned about manuevering a stang on the ice rink that my driveway will become.
