so who is as unfortunate as I am to have to drive their stang this winter? any helpful/ useful suggestions as to driving would be nice

Drive mine all year round. Have 82,000 on 2000 Coupe.
Have second set of wheels and tire (Blizzaks all around)
Don't drive like an idiot and you will be fine. Usually keep the same bag of sand in trunk in the winter that I use when bracket racing. NO PROBLEMS

I have to ask: How much does traction control help in the snow? My current stang is a rollerskate in the snow. I'm in a situation where I need to buy a new stang or buy something else (not because of the weather). I need to be able to get around in winter. I can't really afford to buy two vehicles. The parking at my new apartment is really tight so I'm concerned about manuevering a stang on the ice rink that my driveway will become.

I had a wire head switch the wires so the traction control is always off.
I don't like or trust it. I put in a traction loc differential with 3.73 gears.
I have only gotten stuck once in 24" of unplowed snow because I forgot to put my sand bag in the trunk. Walked up the driveway, got the sand bag, put it in the trunk, drove up the driveway.

Never have driven either of my stang's in the winter. I do however drive a 2002 Chevy S10 2 wheel drive (actually no posi, so really a one wheel drive). With standard all season tires it was just white knuckle awful driver, starting, stopping and overall handling was very poor. Put on a set of 4 Firestone Winter Force tires ($230 for all four) last year along with 150 pounds of sand bags over the rear axel and it was completely transformed - zero problems and almost fun to drive in snow and we had nearly 80" of snow along with the usual amount of weekly ice here. If you absolutly have to drive it in the winter, the same recipe would probably work pretty well with your stang.

lucky for me, i was working just 2 streets over last year. i ran mich alpines, and they were great, but i didn't even bother the day after the blizzard

ill be driving it as long as snow is not falling. ill be using toyo proxy all seasons, and some weight in the back.

*does anyone have washing tips?*
i am most concerned with the salt issue, what can i do to minimize salt buildup under my car, or just crap in general? Im thinkin the car wash, and pay the extra dollers to have them spray underneath. any suggestions? should i cover up any rusty spots now with somekind or rubber sealent?

wash it up, and wax it good(2 coats). then make sure to wash it up as often as you can during the winter. for now, you cover up the rust spots with some rustoleum paint. and then you can spray the bottom of the car with some wd-40, and that helps a bit with the salt and stuff. i used flat black rustoleum automotive spray to paint my whole underbody. so far so good

Full daily driver here...Used BFG Pro-comp t/a 255-50-16 last year, I had to drive um uhh very carefully It was only bad when trying to stop and turn lol Its so fun to rip up a nice unplowed parking lot

I use Blizzak WS-50 205/65/15s on my 10-holes, and they've have gotten me through much more than I thought they could (+ 100lbs. of sand in the hatch). For a long lasting wax, I can't help; but Eagle One Wax-As-U-Dry works well for being super easy.

LAst year my car was a champ in the snow, even w/ my 255/35/18 pirelli's. Then I put in the 2800 rpm T.C., and 4.10's.
Now it blows ass.
My town is full of hills, and lasy year it did good, this year a 4 minute ride home turned into a 20 minute, sideways-up-the-hills affair.
But I made it!!!
It was the first snow of the year and there had been NO plows or salt or sand yet, so not too bad.
I haven't had to drive in any more snow since...
I want to get some winter itres and wheels, though, and load up some sand - never done it before>

Works good for me (Blizzak WS-50s and #2 50lb. bags of sand in the hatch).
