Or you need to clean the wires. If they are dirty the solder has a hard time holding. Just get some sand paper and clean them up and try again.

Are you melting the solder with the iron, or the wire? The trick is to get the wire hot enough that it is what melts the solder. It should suck it in like a sponge.
Very true, use the iron to heat the wire. Theres some pretty good tutorials on youtube showing the correct methods
I personally use a small butane torch for soldering. It heats the wire up ridiculously fast. You can just use one of those torch pocket lighters if you want. The only thing you have to be careful of is that you don't light anything else up if soldering in a tight area, but it still beats holding an iron on a wire. Don't forget the heat shrink tubing!

Small butane torch does seem to be the way to go and it saves me from having to buy a heat gun to melt the heat shrink tubing.
Not a big fan of open flame under the hood of my car. At 25-years-old, I try not to gamble with the integrity of the fuel rails by provoking them with nearby fire if it isn't necessary.
Just be careful with the torch and the shrink tubing. It's easy to overheat and blister the tubing from too much heat. You'll figure out the threshold after you do it a few times.
Cigars? Wife is always complaining about the smell. So after a long hard day at work I like to freebase crack and relax.
on second thought, cigars might help keep a certain someone out of the garage
