Wiring up aftermarket Fan

I figured out my clearence issues on my Blown 351 swap.I ordered two 12in race fans. They are only 2.5 inches thick.I printed off the fan feed scamatic at work, but it shows there are three wires on the stock fan low and high speed and ground. The fans I got have only two.Do I have to run the modual or can I just tap into the hot on the plug?

highspeed is the orange/light blue wire and low speed is red wire. Ground is black.

Just hack the harness off and use your red wire as your power wire and your black wire as your ground wire.

I'm not sure if running just the high speed wire to the fan is the best idea since it takes so much amperage to start up that way...maybe others can chime in. But also, your fans wouldn't turn on until you hit some crazy temps unless you had a tuning device to change when the pcm turns the high speed relay on.

EDIT: Oh wait, your fans have two separate terminals? So you need two grounds and two powers? or do they just go as one terminal?

I'd wire each fan up to it's own relay, each triggered by the OEM low-speed fan output (red, thanks to Clay's notation of wire colors. :nice: ).

This way you won't have two fans overloading one relay, and if one relay fails, the other fan can limp you home.

If you want to use just one relay (and wire the fans up in parallel), I'd use a Bosch 75 amp relay.

I would consider using flyback diodes to help the relay(s) last longer.

You could also use a stand-alone controller if you desire. As you can see, you can wire this new set-up about 10 different ways..........

Of course, the neato way to do it is with a Delta controller. You will want a filter for dual fans if going that route (of course, you'd consult with Baskin before ordering). Anything else is a compromise compared to this method.

Good luck!

I like the idea of using two separate relays as far as price goes.

but if you wanna do it right..that delta controller looks pretty neat. I was considering one until my problem got sorted out..and if I had the extra money I'd definitely get one.

Can someone shoot me a link for one of those delta controlers so I can see how much and check it out,Thanks

Brian is only taking orders from members of a couple of forums (his demand was greater than his capacity to create controllers). He has instructions on how to order here. Disregard the first couple lines on that post, as he was addressing someone else.

And here is his old site info (note that things might have changed since you really are not supposed to access his site anymore, atleast not from the homepage).
