Has anyone tested the new Edelbrock heads and the AFR 165s back to back?? im curious to see if the Eddys perform like the AFR's...they are supposed to have a very similar design (copy) and are less money...id be curious as to everyone's opinions on why spend the $300+ mpre on AFR's if the Eddys are the same thing (basically)

I haven't seen any back to back test, but the new Eddies are looking mighty good right now. I always said I wouldn't run a typhoon intake because they copied the edelbrock design which has worked so well... I guess I spoke too soon as now Edelbrock has done the same thing with the AFR's. FWIW- The exhaust flow of the AFR is still better that the edelbrock.

so Paul, you think wth very slight port work or a five angle valve job etc. the eddys will ber very close to the AFR's. What about a cam that favors the exhaust side would that make up the diff.

these edelbrocks are starting to sound really good. i didn't know that they had even changed them really

I couldn't answer that. All I know about them is what I read on the net and have heard through some conversations with others.

i wonder what Ed C. would have to say about them. From what I've read they are quite the head. But ive been sold on the AFRs for quite some time but now im thinking if these Eddys are that close to the AFR design, is it worth the extra money for the AFRs? And you know Edelbrock wouldn't put their name on a head that wasnt a quality piece.

The 60379's are supposed to be very good. They are supposed to be a lot more competitive with the AFR's than the older version, but I still think the AFR's would come out on top. The question is, by how much? I'd like to see a back-to-back dyno comparison of both heads on the same car to see how much power each puts out (both peak & under the curve).

yeah thats exactly what im getting at...I'm sure the AFR's are still top dog but like you said by how much? If the Eddys are really that close than i cant see spending the money on the AFRs ya know?

I should be getting mine next week, so I'll let you guys know. I should have gotten them on the first week of March, but you all know how that goes .

When I talked to Ed, we talked about the heads - Edelbrock copied the exhaust side of the head. Their intake side is still "lacking" on a flow bench. We'll have to see when I get the car together. I'm actually the test mule here for a street/strip cam for the new Edelbrocks. Ed never ground a cam for the new Edelbrock 1.90 heads for street/strip purposes. When I opened up the cam, I looked at the spec sheet and read them, my first impression was "Jesus Christ!" :D
