Yup that’s what I used, went through all the steps, but it just still looks uneven and dull. I spoke with someone at lmr, pending the email, have to explain my steps, how much I used and how many coats etc. add some pics. They said it may have been a bad batch and they will make it right so I can fix the problem if that is the case.Which stuff did you try? VHT used to have a color that was pretty close "Dark Rose Red" or something like that. I dyed all my stuff black.

Main thing I see is called 'blushing'. That causes the unevenness in color and the lackluster sheen. It is a form of solvent pop. Meaning the surface dries before the solvents used to make the product sprayable have a chance to escape the wet under layer. It's basically a shtload of itty bitty tiny holes in the surface of the coating. The solvents 'pop' through the top dried layer.Ok so can number two done, not gonna lie I sat there and shook this can for 10 minutes lol. This after the second can and I’m still not impressed. I’m doing this in the garage, then I’ll crack the door open to let it air out. Not sure if the spray can just sucked or I just suck and I’m doing something wrong. Shouldn’t be this difficult should it???? All I can think to do is try the SEM Napa red.
I used the SEM vinyl prep spray that came one the kit. I first scuffed the console with a grey scotch brite then cleaned with the prep spray as they did in the lmr video. I did not use a primer, should I have?ok pardon the obvious questions as you won't get good results without them

So the original color of the piece is straight from lmr the grey color. I tried to spray a light coat just getting some color on there, let it dry, followed by the same process. It would spray clear then come out with the pigment. I would shake up the can again and it spray pigment then get kind of clear. I have a 91 with scarlet red interior. I guess it’s in the same area but not near my original, I mean in this pic I just scrubbed and cleaned all the interior so it’s shiny but I wouldn’t call it close.Main thing I see is called 'blushing'. Blushing usually occurs when the coats are applied too rapidly after the previous coating, or they are applied too heavy.
What wasn't the base color (or original color of the piece)?
Ignoring the sheen and blotchiness, does the color come close to what you're wanting?
When I did it I was getting similar results and honestly I went heavy on the last 3 coats and it came out decent. I went through 4 cans total on the cup holder and console delete
Oh yeah buddy me to! I’ll see what he responds to and take any tips and tricks to make this look better and match as best as possible.I've recently started restoring a scarlet red interior (including the LMR cupholder and console delete) and intermittently got those same results, "cloudy" areas. @Davedacarpainter is the pro, but from the research I did humidity can cause this also. Love that porno red!
Wow what! I know I thought 2 cans would have done it, and maybe I could have touched up a few other areas in the car, but that was the final result with two cans. Obviously whatever they use isn’t up to quality of SEM. It’s weird they give you a can of SEM vinyl prep so why not their spray cans? I saw things about humidity but I live I Austin tx and was doing this in a closed garage. Should I not be?4 cans?
I think I used 1/2 a can of the SEM paint to do two consoles and a few other small interior pieces.
Yeah it’s called Napa red idk the numbers, I’m just wondering why the lmr kit comes with the SEM cleaner but they use their own in house or china whatever it is spray cans. I asked the guys at lmr if they have had issues with their scarlet red dye previously and it was kind of a meeehhh yes no answer, sounds like they’ve maybe had issues with the pigment not mixing well and causing it to look like mine did. Still pending to hear from them and see what they can do for me, if not I’ll order a can of SEM nap red off eBay.I believe SEM makes the vinyl dye for them.

So would rescuffing and cleaning again with that SEM vinyl and prep cleaner be good? I did notice that with that cleaner after I sprayed it and wiped it down it got sticky could that be causing a problem?I'd prob rescuff it up with some scotch brite and then go over it
