Well times are tough everywhere and I have been feeling it just as bad as anybody else. I attempted to start a business a few months ago but that fell through...only problem was I had already bought a truck for it, leaving me with a 14.3mpg beast as my only vehicle. I put it up for sale or trade and the only offer resembling decent that I got was a trade for a 93 Accord. I went with it, because the gas was really killing me in the truck. Soooooo since April I have been driving a...sigh...Honda. 28mpg in mixed driving has been good. I just HATE the car.

Weeelllll my cousin just got her license and needs a car sooo I took this opportunity to parlay a deal that nets me some cash and gives me the chance to get something that doesnt suck.

Enter my new ride:

1997 P71 Crown Victoria. I really would have liked to have the 98+ body style but this will do. It won't get quite 28mpg but I think mid 20's are plausible being that I do about 85-90% highway driving.

This thing is a TANK. I am psyched. It is going to get exhaust, newer style deep dish black P71 steelies, a new spotlight and some interior upgrades...this baby is el strippo...

Not bad for $1000...

nice. Heres a thought for you. i think the car would look badass if you just took it for a cheap 300 dollar maaco paint job and got it painted black. and black the windows out too. Just like an unmarked cop car. Thats what i would do

It has definitely crossed my mind. The windows are definitely getting blacked out either way, and I am going to paint the pillars satin black as well. I am also going to get the front door moldings.

I kinda wonder how "aware" people around here are. It is clear that this car is different than the current police cars (98+ style) but I wonder if the general public will still think its a cop car...

Give up all hope of being treated normal in traffic. I drove a 'Vic for a long time, and the more you make it look like a cop car, the more you'll get stuck behind people driving 5 under the speed limit and people second guessing themselves in intersections. They ARE great cars, but do your best NOT to let it look like a cop car, unless you want treated like a cop in traffic.

Couple of funny things about mine: Cops used to wave to me like I was one of their own. Also, on a couple of different occasions (where I might have been driving a bit too fast) people actually pulled over for me. Funny stuff, but it really becomes more of a nuisance than anything.

They are notorious for cracked plenums and leaking coolant so be on the lookout. Also a PI swap would really make it move.

I am happy for you.

Perhaps the thought never occured to you that maybe a Mustang is not practical for where I am in life right now? Choosing a car is not an arbitrary decision...I didn't just go out and buy the first car I could find.

I would love to have another Mustang, but it is not in the cards for me right now. Besides, where am I going to find a decent Mustang for $1000?

both of my friends have black vics with pushbars/spot lights/newer hub caps, etc...everyone gets out of the way and no one will pass them. cops always wave to them thinking they are cops lol
