So I know this topic has probably been beat to death at this point, but I haven't been here in a while so stick with me here. My ma ordered a black GT premium coupe in February....February! It is now almost June. She got a Priority 40, there has been no sign of her car on the horizon. She was number 4 on the list at a dealership in San Diego (who, buy the way, we have purchased nearly a dozen cars from in the past) and, 3 and a half months later she is still number 4. We looked at the order sheet, and the three in front of her have the cars being built, or at least have a VIN. We have kept on the dealer a lot lately, and the only response we get is "No VIN yet." Thats it... She got the IUP, which I know is in short supply, but isn't 3 1/2 months and no VIN a little excessive? She needs a new car and my pa is trying to convince her to get a 350Z. In fact the Nissan dealership keeps calling us. But I know she wants the Stang. 2005 production ends at the end of June, and they are saying her car will be a 2006, meaning she won't get it until July or August. This is ridiculous! This is a Mustang, not a Ferrari Enzo!!! Is anyone else having this problem? I am very curious about it!

You're not alone...

Yep. I ordered mine on January 25.

Fortunately, I got the news last week I finally have a VIN and my scheduled build date is June 6. That will mean I have waited a good five months (21 weeks!) for my car. I will have the IUP as well and I'm pretty sure that has been one of the factors (All 05s I've seen - V6 or GT - on the lot or on the street have never had the IUP... it's really rare) . The only other option I got was locking wheel nuts, preferring to do some other stuff aftermarket (stereo, moonroof, cold intake etc).

Hope your car comes sooner rather than later. A gal at my church bougfht a 2004 Z and in her words was "soooo jealous". She wants the new Mustang something fierce. I think you'll really be glad you waited it out. Given my date, it can't be long for you now!!

So there's hope. Maybe that means we'll get the VIN number soon. At least that'll be some rays of hope on an otherwise dark few months! Thanks for the encouragement!

At least you are on the list. From What I am told Dealerships here are not even taking Orders right now.

Ordered mine on December 14, 2004

I ordered my 05 GT on 12-14-04, and still have not heard a thing. My dealer keeps telling me that Ford is still behind in production. There for awhile I was getting mad about it, but now I just keep thinking someday I will come home from work and there will be a phone call about the "Phantom Mustang" (as my friends call it) being produced. Tell mom to hang in there

It's not your options that are hurting you, it's your dealers. I ordered on 25 Feb and picked up the car on 12 May. We ordered a GT with the IUP & Active Anti-Theft. Oh yeah, I ordered it on A-plan too! Your dealers aren't taking care of you.

Dealer allocations seems to be the big problem here and they are not up-front about it. I ordered in Jan and had the car in Apr. but I ordered from a large volume dealer. If they are telling you it's gonna be an 06, then they probably don't have allocation for any more 05's.

Priority code 40, ouch.

I waited almost 4 months and I consider it worth the wait. Hang in there and try to get that priority code adjusted.

Allocation, allocation! It's all about dealer allocation. Priority doesn't mean a thing unless there are several orders in at that dealer. Some got their cars quicker then others did. It took mine from late January to a couple of weeks ago before I got mine. I had a priority 40. If the dealer is only allotted 1 a month and there are 4 people in front of you, at minimum its going to be 4 months maybe longer. I sure hope you get your cars soon.

Your not going anywhere with a 40 priority. You need to get it changed to a 10. You might even look for another dealer, but at this late stage you probably won't get an '05. Find out from the dealer how many allotments he has each month and where your order would be in relation to others already on order.

From what I've read, even the folks who ordered back in Dec. and Jan. are getting their cars now. I ordered 1/7 and took delivery 3/24 ,but I was lucky to have a dealer with quite a few allocations. Good luck.

I agree... to have any chance at all of getting the vehicle you really need to have the dealership change your priority to 10. Otherwise you'll be lucky to get an '06 let alone an '05.

It looks like I may be ordering my new Mustang GT too! (See my post - Subject: "A deal gone bad") I heard that Ford is no longer building 2005 GTs so it looks like I'll be lookin' to get an 06. If thats the case, then I'll just have to wait, but hopefully not 3 to 5 months. SHEESH!!
I'm sure people will be jealous the day when they see me park my new GT next to my 2003 Nissan 350Z.

I'm sure that this has been mentioned before, but the lower the priority number the better, with a 10 being the best you can get. When I ordered my car in October of last year I was given a priority number of 20, but when I found out the number and asked to lower the number the dealer told me that since the order had been given a VIN it didn't matter what priority I had.
Ordered 10/20, picked it up 12/28.

As to production of 05s and start of production of 06 models...O5s are still being built (Mustang V-6 and GT), but it's going to be hard to get a new order in for an 05.
Production of 06 models start in August so you should expect the car in September/October at the earliest NOT July.
