do you already have headers for standard style heads? if so, IMO, go for the vic jr's. they have a slightly raised exh port, but not so much as the high ports.

there are several good brands of aftermarket heads out there ripe for the picking-but choose wisely...try to stay away from cheap junk, you'll end up spending just as much to get the final product and waste alot of time in the process...

just thought about something blue-the high ports use the same valve angle as the vic jr's and the cheap knock off D&D heads...20*, so with that in mind, regardless of which of those he could potentially choose, they would all require the same type piston

Hmm...so the high ports are not the twisted wedge style chamber?

Well then I dont think they are as good as the standard TFS chamber with the 15*/17* degree Intake/Exhaust.Only the ports are larger,so they will of course flow more.

Dont get me wrong there great heads, but if Im buying a TFS it would be the R head.

normally that statement can and will hold true, but when someone tells they're own experience, I tend to listen a little more intently.

1)needed bowl cleanup both intake and exhaust; not a real big deal, but time consuming...wouldn't you want to just be able to take them out of the packaging and bolt them down?

2)required 0.060" of material removed from pushrod holes (toward the valve side) to use Ford type rockers; this process can be done with a die grinder or dremel, but really should be left up to a qualified machinist, which isn't always cheap

3)16 helicoils installed for rocker studs; the machinist I take my stuff to charges $18/helicoil install 16*18=$288...man, that cost in and of itself lends me to think that it would be more economical to just save up a little more for a better set of heads

I also consulted Fox Lake racing about this one, and their commentary cited several problems they'd encountered with people sending them those heads saying they're the same as vic jr's...port volume inequality, (again) pushrod hold positioning precluded them from taking out the intake port without the possibility of running out of metal, intake bolt holes not lining up correctly...the list goes on.

For my money, I'd splurge a little and get a warm fuzzy about purchasing a set of well developed product instead of an inaccurate copy...just a little piece of mind.

However, it's your money, I can't tell you what to do with it.

I can see how some one could be a little annoyed or worried about the bowl blend, but it can be done your self.

Is it possable to use another make of rocker? The push rod holes really are that big of a concern as long as you dont go throuht the wall. And you can always use some epoxy if you did a little.

I would say that is a little over board,if you got a buddy with a drill press and some decent taps, you can kit a kit and do them yourself.

And Im not disagreeing with you either,I agree that that sucks you got to do all that.

Now thats probably were Iwould cut the line,I wouldnt try and port a Chiese head.No only for the reasons above, but that also sounds ghey.

"Yea,I got ported Chinese heads."

you're absolutely right, the bowl blend can be done fairly easy-even by a beginner...I was just offering that it would be much easier to know that they are already good to go; that I could potentially just bolt them down after removing the stupid packing peanuts...

as far as the rockers-I know it sounds kinda ridiculous, but several people on another mustang forum were working with the exact same set of heads (which go by many names, Pro Comp, Hy Flow, you get the idea), they claim to be cast from the same molds as Vic Jr's. But the way they're machined led required them to either use chevy components, or have the pushrod holes taken in to use their ford style rockers and valves.

I see where you're coming from with the pushrod holes not being that big a problem-yeah, you can fix it with epoxy and an insert, but it's just personal preference...if I had the option to get a set of heads where I could bring them out to where I want them without doing that, I would be much more inclined to take that route.

helicoils....you still gotta buy the inserts, and you still gotta waste the time to do 16 of them. I'm sure there's probably a point to which the shop will start charging less per procedure if they have to do the same thing over and over, but it's still much more worth my time to spend the extra money and get a quality product.

I meant to reply to you earlier about the high ports-you're probably thinking about the track heats, which do use the standard TW design. The high ports are a inline style head with a 20* valve angle. The R heads are outstanding piece of aluminum, but they're are much more suited to either very high rpm small displacement engines, or bigger windsors-357 and up...not to mention the expensive headers you gotta get.

Any one of the TFS pieces are excellent though...

I was talking about the High Port,I got a set of Track Heats (fully ported at that) setting in my shop, and a set of R heads (also fully ported) sitting in the house.I know what the Twisted Wedge chamber looks like

edit:I think Rick cleared it up on your other thread. The heads may have the same valve angle but the postions of the valve are moved from standard in line.Thats what I though, but I didnt know about the increased valve angle.
