My good buddy called me last night to see if I was interested in his dad's TKO600. The thing only has 1000 miles on it but its got a cracked case, and its for a GM so it has a different input shaft. The car it came out of was making nearly 800hp and its believed that it cracked on the dyno due to inadequate clearance in the transmission tunnel under torque. The car was never raced and never had sticky tires on it. I've already called around and I can get a new case, input shaft and bearing retainer and have it all reassembled for ~$600. My buddy only wants around that for the transmission. So in essence I could end up with a TKO600 with 1000 miles on it for around 1/2 of what they go for new, assuming that there isn't anything else wrong with it. I already have an older TKO that is rated at 450ftlbs, and this is rated at 600ftlbs. the only other difference is the gear ratios as this transmission is geared higher than the ford units. It has a 2.87 first gear versus my 3.27 and a .64 OD versus my .68. What would you do? I may be buying another 94-95 so I'd keep my older TKO.

thats a heck of a price if you have the money. I'd do it. Do you trust the guy who would be doing the work on it? that would be my only concern. the guy who fixed my t3550 did a great job and was very knowledgeable, but i would never take it to joe-schmo's trannys-r-us on the corner

Go for it!!

I had mine rebuilt by a local shop because it was whining ... didn't fix it so I sent it to Bob Hanlon who is a expert. He has been featured in numerous articles.

Shipping was not that bad even though it was across the country. Luckily the local shop gave me my money back!
