Wow Article On Yahoo Says 2013 Mustang Handles Bad!!????

Today on the front page of Yahoo it says that some race car diver "tests the new 2013 Mustang" so I said let me read it. I knew it was going to be biased. For some reason all Mustang reviews are! The so called professional driver says that the Mustang handles bad??? If im not mistaken I saw a comparison of the 2011 M3 and 11 5.0 and they handles almost identical! Now the M3 is a great handling car? What gives?

I read that article. It may not handle like an M3 or (insert whatever car with an IRS here), but it's more than fine for 95% of the people that will be buying it. It can still hold it's own against it's competitors like the Camaro and Challenger. It may not be the perfect pony car, but IMHO it's still the best bang for the buck.

Actually, the GT does handle as well as an M3 according to the youtube video which pits the M3 against a '11 GT and done by, shall we say, a more objectve 'race car driver'.

yeah i'm sure it handles "bad" compared to the RACE cars he is used to driving.

"Handles bad" can mean a whole lot of different things. In my opinion, these cars handle very well. Motor Trend determined that the GT will run basically even with an M3 on a race track. The level of grip is tremendous. With the summer tires, these are capable of just under 1g in lateral acceleration, more than an MX-5 Miata in fact. (I can personally vouch for this, too.)

I'm going to assume their beef lies with the SRA. Because of that, the back end can get upset easy if you hit a bump, particualarly under power. With mine, I've never noticed any handling problems mid-corner. However, I've hit bumps under power in 2nd or 3rd gear, and even in a straight line, it really throws the back end of the car, making it feel like the wheels have momentarily left the ground.

I was going to post a new thread but I guess this works too.

What changed 2011+ from the 05-09 cars that makes them handle so much better? Seems all the major parts are nearly the same and it doesn't seem to have majorly changed any geometry, otherwise parts wouldn't be swappable between them, so what is it?


And yeah, I think I am going to trust the rest of the testing world over some yahoo article.

I just did a little research. Actually, Ford redid a whole lot of stuff to make it handle better. Remember the Track Pack in 2010? The suspension bits from that were made standard equipment on the 2011 GT. Compared to the 05-09s, the 2011+ GTs have stiffer springs and dampers, a strut tower brace, limited slip differential, summer tires (with the Brembo package), larger sway bars, and different rear lower trailing links and front upper strut mounts. The lateral stiffness of the car is supposedly 12 greater.

Got the track pack on my 13 and its handling is excellent. They said it would pull a G and my accelerometer confirmed it.

If I had that option in mine, I'd get into so much trouble (probably will anyway...)

If the new Mustangs didn't handle well, I wouldn't have gone for one.

Not showing off, just letting the people know the facts from a real '13 GT owner. So many of these threads are polluted with vendors trying to sell. Just let the real 'stang owners talk please. Oh yeah, its kinda fast too in addition to the great handles. Here's some E.T. slips from Atco raceway.Best was 12.85 but redlighted that run. 12.92 best official time and my 60 foot times are weak. Car will do 12.70s imho, with a more experienced driver(been 15 yrs since last had a stang and it wasnt close to being this fast)

The guy next to me with a 12.89 was an AUTO '13 GT. My track pack with 3.73s has some shifter and wheel hop issues, so the auto hangs with it. When I get my MGW shifter and LCA's with relo. brackets(J&M extreme lcas and BMR brackets), hopefully I'll get more benefit from the gear and hit 12.7 or 12.6s. Mid 12s and havent touched the engine...WOW!

I'm just giving you a hard time. I appreciate the info, and am impressed that the car can accomplish that basically stock. Again, that's part of why I bought one.

Has anyone ever noticed how similar the reviews about mustangs and most american sports cars are? They always start off by saying how cheap the interior is or how plasticky the plastic feels.

Greatest achievement american muscle brought to the world was making affordable cars that could make heads turn. It pi-ss-es me off when people don't understand the type of car they're looking at (i.e. don't compare a muscle car the same way would compare a more expensive euro sports car).

Also for the handling it always comes out how the mustang needs to play catch up with the other companies for having a solid rear axle. Then the article mentions how the base GT is $34,300! Wasn't that the main reason for not changing the rear axle, for price? Stock chargers in manual are around ~35k. Challengers are around 40k --I believe-- and vettes, BMW, Audi, and the others are all way more expensive for a good handling and fast car

Yes, because they are such a rare breed. They only sell 6000 to 10,000 cars per month from Feb to Sep.
