wtf?e-brake and airbag light stays on when i drive. HELP!!!!!!!!1111one111!!!!!!1

ya, so i was noticing lately that during the first drie of the day (usually a mile or so) my e'brake light stays on for a few blocks.

then, every time after that, i goes on when ever i get on it at all.

the e-brake has never really worked too good, it'l work if you really yank on it, but other than that, the car will just kind of slowly creep back. mabye this has something to do with it?

oh yeah, and ever since i got the car, the airbag light flashes on and off, what the hell is that, for now, i just put those tiny autometer stickers over both of them so i dont have to be bothered by them

Check out http://www.veryuseful.com/mustang/tech/airBag for the airbag issue, my 95 does it, too. In my case, I need a new LH shock sensor. The brake problem could be as simple as the fluid level being low, or could be an ABS sensor issue.

There is somthing wrong with the air bag system. Be carefull messing with it.

search around a bit... i had an airbag light that would flash on start up i did some research and it turns out that it would flash a sequence of 5 then 2 then start over.... this turned out to be a code 52 wich in fords meant that the battery was at some point dissconnected... simple fix of reseating the computer by bridging to ports on my computer pins start the car code reset problem solved

For the air bag: Does your horn work? Many times, it's the clock spring goes bad.

Let me know what the code is.
o The air bag diagnostic monitor (14B056) illuminates the air bag indicator for approximately six seconds when the ignition switch (11572) is turned to RUN and then turns the air bag indicator off. This indicates that the air bag indicator is operational. If the air bag indicator does not illuminate at all, stays on continuously, or flashes at any time, then a fault has been detected by the air bag diagnostic monitor.

o Diagnostic trouble codes, if present, will begin flashing within 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned to RUN. This is the amount of time it takes the air bag diagnostic monitor to perform all tests and verify system faults, if present.

o Diagnostic trouble codes are displayed as a series of flashes and pauses of the air bag indicator. Diagnostic trouble codes are two-digit numbers.

Example: A DTC 32 is displayed as follows:

flash flash flash - (two second pause) -
flash flash - (five second pause)...

flash flash flash - (two second pause) -
flash flash - (five second pause)...




The brake light is a different issue.

Nope. The POS '90 Stang OEM brakes may not have been able to lock up, but, you didn't have ABS.

Also, 2-wheel ABS systems are mostly seen only on trucks and then it's for rear brakes because of the huge amount the load can vary over the rear wheels.

Feel free to check the Ford Service manuals and CD. Also, check out the Mustang Red Book.

BTW: The orig owner of my '86 used to say that it had "first gen ABS". That's because the POS '86 brakes couldn't lock up even on glare ice and bald tires. IMHO, Ford should have been had their ***es sued off for producing a car with NO BRAKES AT ALL (i.e. '86 5.0 Stangs). BTW: To stop an '86 stang, the best way is to draq your foot out of the door - like Fred Flintstone. The brakes on '86 stangs are for display purposes ONLY!

it IS though....staying on the entire time the car is on, but it sounds like it could be the battery thing, because i disconnect my battery every time i work on the car.

as for the brake light... i'll check the brake fluid tomorrow.

The ebrake handle has a switch that will get out of adjustment and cause the brake light to come on. The only way to get at the switch is to remove the center console.

The Air Bag light flashes only when you turn the ignition key to "on".

Only the 94+ stangs have the "foolish" "You disconnected the battery, so I'm throwing a hissy fit " error.

For a 93, you will not get any Air Bag error for disconnecting the battery.


Note: The Air Bag diagnostic module is always on and checking the status. It uses the "key on" mainly for error display and to detect some system errors. Also, the Air Bag diagnostic module does not activate the air bags. In fact, all the module can do is blow an internal fuse that prevents the air bags from activating if the module detects a possibly "very bad system status" (such as the safety sensor as always being "on" over multiple engine on/off cycles).

Another FYI, since I'm typing : Ford uses a 2-stage air bag activation system. The safety senor activates at ~5mph (crash wall) The air bags sensors activate at ~14mph crash into a wall or ~28mph crash into another car.

I had that issue with my e-brake light. Turned out my brake fluid level was half empty and my pads were nearly gone. Changed the pads and refilled the resevoir and the light shut off.

i kinda took a look at the air bag light when i was driving down the highway and noticed that it blinked twice then went off for a few seconds

the second thing i noticed was that i wasnt paying attention to the 80mph traffic i was in, so thats all i could get out of it.

any ideas

Carbed, I did not read all this (I hate it when people say that), but have you pulled the Air bag code yet? That is how to figure it out. S&2B's is nice enough to host one of the best info-sites out there, but we have to use the reference materials provided (y'all know I reference that site enough).

S&2B's - I already thanked Tom, but thanks to you for hosting some 94-95 diagrams too.

i have a blink blink blink pause over and over again for the airbag light the whole time the car is on...anybody ever see this....The code table in jrichker's link says its the backup battery thing for the system...damn

Maybe i knocked it loose...i beleive this all started back in mid-summer when i hit a huge bump in the road.

then noticed that my rotors had two nice wear grooves in them...hehe

so what am i going to need?

i want to get all the brake stuff taken care of at one time, here's my list so far

two new rotors
bottle of brake fluid (or two)
and turn my drums

BTW;Prolog:
Error code 32 is the most common air bag problem. Chances are Very Good that you have bad clock spring in the steering column. It is Very Easy to replace! Get a NEW one from Ford. They are not very expensive (between ?$45 to $90?). Do NOT waste your time or money getting a used one from the junk yard that may break soon. The clock spring connects the turning steering wheel to your stationary steering column. So, over time, they have a tendency to break.

To replace: just disconnect the battery, yank the air bag, replace the clock spring, put it back together. Get a NEW clock spring from Ford. I think they are still around $70. To remove the air bag,
