Ok, so my gf calls me crying cause she got a phone call from her mom saying that her brother is going to lose his job at ford and he is a big drinker and they are afraid that he is going to drink himself to death. So I calm her down after a bit. So then we into the discussion of why its happening. I explain to her that the big three were producing crap in the 90s and their reliability wasn't great and they were too concerned with making gas guzzling suvs and they haven't bounced back to regain the market from all that. I didn't want to say it but I was thinking too if the workers weren't so greedy and didn't get paid $30+/hour companies could afford to make the cars here in the states.
I think she got mad at me cause I explain why my ex and I bought a honda civic instead of an american car. I did want to buy american but I didn't see anything that the big 3 offered that matched what the civic had to offer for us. Plus it was made in Ohio so I didn't feel too bad about buying it. I told her that consumers aren't worried about "buying american" like they use to. I said that people are going to buy what's best for them in a car then worry about Joe blows job security. Most of her family works for ford in someway or another, btw. So then she starts to get mad at me for that and says that I should listen to her brother on the subject and that I would think differently.
I was being sympathetic towards her brother. I was just simply stating why he is losing his job. So then we got all mad at eachother over this stupid discussion and hang up.
What do you guys think? Am I missing something on the subject that a auto plant worker sees??
