Always made a bit of the tick & clackity... started getting more and more noisy a couple of months ago. Can really hear it when driving near walls & cars with windows down.

Digital camera in video mode did not pick up as much click/clack as you can hear in person, but...

click for the sound

'04, 8K miles, 2 oil/filter changes already (Mobil 1 at 5500 miles), always warmed up carefully, never hit the rev limiter (maybe 6100 RPM a dozen times since new)

Makes same amount of noise on both sides of the car and can hear from both sides at once with the hood up.

Is this normal, or do we have ourselves a warranty repair coming up soon?

---------------------

Needed to add this:

The engine is fully warmed and had been just driven, so this is not a cold engine noise.

Noise speeds up with RPMs.

Oil level is fine.

Yeah, it's difficult to diagnose that via the video (it's very faint).

Good thing you ruled out cold-start rattle, that's usually a complaint from people who use too heavy of an oil weight.

What about an exhaust leak, those tend to increase w/ RPM...

Have you ruled out noisey fuel injectors as well?

Can you better localize where the sound is coming from?

Try taking an empty rubber hose (ie - coolant hose or similar) or a screwdriver and use it as a makeshift steathascope to see if you can pinpoint the origin of the noise (cyl#, head, etc).

It's an 04 Model. I'd take it back to the dealership regardless of what anybody on this board says. You paid for a warrantee, might as well use it!

HOLY 4x4 GAP!.. Perhaps it's the infamous ticking valves? It's suppose to be normal... mine does it too. Never hurt to have the dealer look at it though. Good luck
