Personally, I hate wading through all the "how much is my ______ worth" threads. The posters can, each and every one of them, answer their own question very simply: Go to www.ebay.com and search "completed items" for what they're wanting to sell. That will tell you what you can expect to get or ask for your item. Pawn shops use this exact method to determine what to price something at. I tried to dicker with one on a guitar and they immediately pointed to four recent auctions for similar guitars and refused to come down.

Something is worth exactly what someone else is willing to pay for it. Referring to the post in question, to me that car was worth $7500 or less. As nice as it looks, it's still a 120,000 mile GT. I've seen real Cobras with fewer miles sell for less.

i agree with you..

on a side note - ive never seen (doesnt mean there isn't tho) a 93 cobra with less then 120k miles sell for anything less then 10k.. ive seen 94-98 cobra's sell for less the 7500k tho...

Especially the bored thread.

Personally, I don't care. If I don't want to read a thread, I won't. Simple really.

Except ad threads of course. I agree, they belong in classifieds.

Exactly....that thread is 3k posts strong and i just now decided to click on it just for the heck of it. I skim over a LOT of posts, but hey that's any forum where you've got this many users.

I'm not a mod on a powertrip, and I've been a mod for quite a long time. I assure you that I do not close threads for personal gratification. I invite anyone who feels I'm far out of line to discuss that with my "chain of command," so to speak. The right person to bring it up to would be a forum administrator.

I stickied the thread to make a point not just to the user in question but to all of the users in this forum. Without question that particular thread was a thread whose intent was to attract attention to a car in order to make a sale. And, as I stated in that thread, anyone is perfectly welcome to use the classified section for the same purpose.

I JUST reviewed the thread in question (wasn't aware it was in this forum till I logged on just now. hehe).

Anyway...

I'd have closed the thread down as well. If you guys like, you can go back to page one and see how that thread fits into the questions that I gave examples for.

In addition, the thread was used in an attempt to show what it contained that made is suspect and why it was shut-down.

Another thought is this... those who are familiar with me also know that I'm also a bit of a wise ass. I like to try and fun and sometimes (ok often) make light or make a funny out of something that I've moderated (think back to all the pics of boots I've posted, the Bancake Bunny, and my patented You Got Owned for Posting Spam movie. hehe)

Anyway, the point is that you that know me, know that it's intended to make fun as well as accomplish the moderation. Those that don't know me, can often misconstrue that and think that they're being made an ass of or that I'm "Power Tripping". Meanwhile, I'm over here LOLing at my own cleverness.

Bottom line: New poster drawing attention to a current sale and possibly trying to mask it as a quest for information.

In those cases, we have to do what we think is best. For lack of an SN reputation, we're always going to error on the side of caution.

If were to follow the LETTER of the TOS, then ALL such threads would be deleted. Since this is a community though... we try and give the benefit of doubt when we can.

First off, Daggs is the man and I fully agree with what he said.

Now for my thoughts, why is it when some users don't understand an action a moderator has taken jump immediately to creating "the damn moderators are on a power trip" thread. This usually pisses me off. Do you really think we do this out of some stupid-ass sense of power?

If you want to complain, ask a question or question an action a moderator has taken send the mod a PM.

It's okay. Please remember we are just enthusiasts and users of this forum as you are. We have volunteered our time to keep the place pointed in the right direction and free of poop.

Questioning staff member’s actions is fine. We are not above the rules and we try to do our best. Every mod has their own style and sometimes we can be misunderstood or misunderstand the actions of a forum member.

its like daggar said, if the sales threads werent regulated with an iron fist this board would jus become autotrader. the internet is full of people that are jus out to make a quick buck and I for one would leave the board completely if every thread was jus about making a buck and things that are for sale. I come on here for advice, product suggestions, opinions, and jus entertainment for my favorite car. Mods on powertrips? oh you bet it happens, I jus havent seen it on this particular forum. This forum is by far the best car forum I have been on. For the most part people dont fight, we have very lil trolling etc. jus my 2cents.

I have to agree with 310 on the no fighting part. Just go to the corral( been a member there about the same time as I have here). Anyone who thinks the flame throwers are runnin high octane over here, have never been srayed with the rocket fuel and lit ablaze by some of the dingleberries over there. NOt dissin the corral as a whole, cause it is a great site in its own right, but some of the things we do here on SN 5.0 talk would catch more flack than the Mephis Bell, and that is due to the sense of repsonsibility, respect, and humor of the mods here.
There, a little leg humping never hurt anyone( unless a cat does it, cause I hear they have prickly pokers )
