Have you ever had the nightmare of running 87 octane in a 93 tune?
What about running the wrong fluid in your tremec? That would be me.
Got my car out running and driving and my tremec (TKO 500) always has had a whine since I could remember in 5th gear. I decided to call tremec and figure it out, mainly bc it shifts perfectly fine for years now and still does.
Anyways I have always ran the Dexron III ATF generic auto store brand before Amazon prime days.
Long story stupid, generic ATF DEX III/ MERC was out of stock during my last fluid change and I used Mercon V .
Per Tremec thats a no go, either Dex III or Synchronmesh (GM, Penn, Valvoline...not Royal Purple) due to some additive that doesn’t play nice with the synchros.
Switched it out and the whine is quieter, shifts a little more sluggish with synchromesh but its the right fluid.
