Hiding MAF and Routing CAI

I'm going to be building my own CAI out of 3" aluminum tubing and I want to hide my LMAF in the fender. The only way I figure I can do that is to mount the filter and LMAF vertically inside the fender and then have a 90* bend going through the fender into the engine compartment. From there it will be as straight of a shot as possible to a fox style throttle body.

Will either the 90* bend after the meter or having the meter mounted vertically cause any problems? I know it's ideal to have as few bends as possible, but I wouldn't mind losing a little power so that I can hide the meter and filter.

Thoughts?

Why do you want to hide you MAF anyway? Are you ashamed of it.... If you are ashamed of your MAF then your MAF is ashamed of you :p . Anyway if you have a bend before the MAF the turbulence at the bend before your MAF could set your readings way off and cause eratic a/f mixtures. So I say leave the MAF where it was meant to be. :D just my .02:SNSign:

There is a bend in a regular CAI. Right before the MAF and then turns to the fender and the filter is there.

And Ive always heard that the MAF needs to be pointing striaght up. Bu if you were to do it then the only way I could see it working would be to put a bend straight down in the fender, then attach the MAF and filter.

Yes in a perfect world setup, you would have no bends.

I have played around with several setups and done things which you see as real no no's and still had no issues I could find

When I had my self ported E7 combo I had my maf/filter sitting on that ledge way down below the headlight. I always had concerns about water finding its way in there.

I once had my maf connected to my tb by a Fernco connector. Ran it like that for over a year and had no issues.

I've had the maf up and down, sideways, and other angles as well with no probs I could discern.

Since my current combo flows a good bit more air than the others, I went with a setup that had no bends other than the elbow. I also kept the maf a reasonable distance from the tb.

I did at one time have hard data showing bends do in fact hinder airflow.

Just a few things I've seen and tried :)
