I agree with the comments about GT owners who bash V6 owners then make their cars look like GT 500s. Why can't Mustang owners get along??
I still don't understand this poll and what checking one of the boxes means. Can someone explain it because it sure as heck isn't clear to me.

Here's my take on it. Every part is functional. The quarter window scoop's purpose is to make the car look different/better. It does that. So it is functioning precisely how it is made. Side scoops. People want them functional. Ok they are functioning as intended when you put them on. Or would you REALLY want to cut into you quarter panels and try routing hoses for them to cool the rear brakes?

It'd be cool if it was an option IMO.

Also, a lot of people are truists I guess. They think that the car should be left alone for the most part looks wise and if you do mess with it, why? You're just adding more weight than is already on it, etc...

I say make it look how you want, don't let others decide for you. I understand why some people find it odd to put a body kit on the car, but I also see why people do it, it looks good!

I say again, "the poll is useless". Disregard the poll, just give you opinion on Functional vs. Flare.

If I was going to be racing the car in a track where I will be braking hard I would definitely make the scoops funtional. I would also lighten the car as much as possible and do a myriad of changes to be able to be competitive.

I bought my Mustang for my own ego. I love the way it looks and the way it gives me that cool ride to work and back. I've gotten tons of complements, and I've even gotten pulled over by a cop to find out what the GT/CS meant. To be honest, I get more complements on my 07 rather than on my 66 fastback. It seems that the newer generations appreciate more a new meaner looking car than the classic look of the 66. I do get complements on my 66, but by a totally different crowd.

Bottom line: Don't say anything negative about any Mustangs...they are all awesome cars...well, unless someone goes and puts a japanese engine in one...then you can bash the heck out of him. We can go off on many tangents and say that Stangs suck compared to Porsche of Ferrari, but then again it will be like comparing oranges and apples. It's a Mustang thing.

I agree.

We are talking about Mustangs here. They have been customized since the beginning and IMO that's what is cool about them. You can customize it, play with it, make is faster, change this, change that...and call it your own. If you want to be a truist...I suggest getting a Porsche...they are pretty much as fast as they are going to be and all the flare is functional. Does anyone follow my drift? That is the great deal you get with a Mustang...tons of parts available for you to make it special.

I say make your car look they way you want it. Functional hood scoops don't really do anything anyway, on the other hand functional side scoops would be cool. Bottom line it is your car and if you want it to look "purdy," then go for it.

I agree that it is your car and you should not care what others think. Having said that any non-functional parts one adds to the car are ultra gay. I do not have a non-functional bipod on my rifle, I do not have non-functioning buttons on my joystick. Maybe you could add a nitrous switch that does nothing, or a set of fogs that are not powered.....In my opinion it is just plain stupid, it's reminds me of the dorks that used to page themselves when beepers came out so their co-workers would think they had a life and were important. Kind of like a 3 foot wing on a cavalier, stupid gaudy waste of time. But if you want to paint a mural of Barbie and Ken on your car, have at it. You are the one that needs to like the way she looks and no one else.

I agree that a dorky 3 foot wing is pretty gay along with other dorkyties. However, there are certain things that give a car that extra feel to it as long as it is kept within reason. Those side scoops that come with a CS are simply awesome along with the GT hood scoop. To be honest, the only thing I wish my CS didn't have would be the rear wing. I would have prefered to have a smoother look in the back.

If you go to one end of the spectrum and to an extreme, you could say that: All colors are dorky because only white is functional...it's a cooler temp, looks cleaner, and easily matched if you have to do body work. You see what I'm getting at? All a matter of taste.

BTW, I don't agree with your comparison between a car and a gun, or a car and a joystick...sounds too far fetched to me. What the??? It just doesn't make sense. Cars are not like a gun nor like a joystick. When was the last time you picked up a chick with a gun or a joystick? With a gun you would probably pick up some guys that have the same interest to go to the range. With a joystick you would pick up some computer nerds. Besides, you put a scoop on a car to give it shape and lines and to customize it. You put a scoop on a gun for what? You can put a laser sight, or you can put a different stock to make it functional...simply because guns have to be functional, they have to shoot everytime you pull the trigger and the person or thing you are shooting at doesn't say, "oh my, what a pretty cool gun that is." It used to be, way back when, that cars where simply functional to get you from point A to point B...America evolved from that trend decades ago.

Now, when you speak of buttons that do nothing or someone that calls themselves on a pager...that is called "posing". Putting extra things in your car to personalize it is not the same thing. Putting a sticker on the back that says, "turbocharged"...that is posing.

We shall defer to your mighty wisdom. Anyone who's single mod is to drop in a K&N filter (hope you dyno'd that sucker after you put that thing in there!!!) is surely entitled to call other peoples mod's "ultra gay".

ps, are your rifle and joystick hooked up to the same system?:rlaugh:

Sorry but sometimes you guys are a bunch of crybabys....

You asked for opinions so I gave one. I stated it is up to you what you do, but i thought you wanted to know what we thought:

Definition of opinion: (dictionary.com)

1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
2. a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.

I did not realize you would get all hurt. All i am saying is i think mods that do nothing, but appear to, are stupid. I think any aesthetic mods are nice, but to me if they are non-functional, i think they are stupid (not unlike many posts above that did not cause you to hyperventilate). I have seen many a Stang on here that looks wonderful with them, hell the new OEM scoops look nice..I just don't want something that is mostly an illusion (kind of like a sock in your shorts, i stress the word YOUR). However I did not mean to hurt your feelings.

By the way my "single mod" you refer to is because i have been saving $$$ and waiting to have all of it installed at once and dyno tuned at the same time, at Livernois here in MI. If you like i can list my future mods, but until they are on the car i figured that too was ultra gay. Don't worry though, when i am done i can assure you my mods will be extensive and if your budget allows you can try and insult me then. I plan to tear out the bottom half, SC, cams/heads...I am looking for 600RWHP before i stop spending, or i will buy a GT500 this summer. That is why i have done nothing yet, i have wanted a Shelby for about twenty years now, i am just not paying 10-20K over sticker to get it.

This is painful to listen to coming from someone who thinks shorties are worth the money but wants to bag my choices so far.

Are my rifle and joystick hooked to the same system?...no those are called examples. Maybe you can understand this one a little better:

My dirt bike does not have a nitrous switch that does nothing, nor does it have a faring to break the wind because it is a dirt bike, thus it would look cool but do nothing..... I hope that is a bit easier for you to comprehend.

Funny thing is, i agree with you. Read my post again, I (me, opinion) do not like them. I cannot see paying to have them if they do nothing. But i think everyone else should enjoy them and support the aftermarket. I was merely responding to the request for opinions, in the future i will try to avoid the polls and stick to getting questions answered. I do not come here to argue, I come here for help and ideas.

The rifle and joystick were examples, i gave a more applicable one in the above response i made to a flame. Here is one more though: Would you want a sidecar on a bike merely because it looked cool? Would you want it if it did not carry cargo or have any other use? I would not, but more power to my neighbor if he does.

Mwah! Looks Who's Crying II.

First sentence of quote - no opinion there, just a straight out flame. Or, do you truly think that non-functional, AM parts are having same-gender sex with each other (CERTAINLY nothing I've ever seen)? Hmmm, I feel another poll coming on - "Who has seen their aftermarket stuff banging away when it thought no-one was looking?".

Second sentence of quote - doesn't even make any sense. Or, are you saying that people who PRETEND to add non-functional parts to their cars, to impress co-workers, remind you of the dorks who... Nope, still confused.

Thanks for breaking it all down for me. Really cleared it all up.

And yes, I'm really very impressed by your list of proposed mod's (hey, that reminds me of something I just typed, what was that...?).

600hp, b'gosh!?! For the track, right? Cos 600hp on the street. Kinda like a 3ft wing on a Cavalier...:nice:

The painfully obvious point i attempted to make for you was that i greatly dislike such parts and think they are silly. My reference to the sexual orientation of such parts was meant as comedy and not be taken literally (i thought that was obvious, even if was not funny Dan Quayle would likely grasp the nature of my comment).

Your stellar appreciation for my proposed mods is why (as i stated...) that i do not list such things...a proposed mod is similar to a bugcatcher, but the bugcatcher looks cooler (i.e. opinion).

600HP may be more than you would like for a street car but my drive each day is short and i drive my truck or my wife's car on trips anyway and now i can have some runs on the weekend with my cousins instead of wanting to (wow...another example of our difference in opinion). I had a Blown 72 Camaro that made 580 at the rear wheels and i drove it everywhere, and it was a blast. Plus i like being a sleeper if possible anyway, if you actually drive the car hard you really dont want the attention that the bling gives.

No hard feelings buddy, you and i just disagree on taste. I was not trying to impose my taste on you, i am just a bit outspoken and i am sorry you took me so seriously. Normally it is fun to get a rise out of people and in person i doubt this exchange would transpire the way it has, e-chatter has a nasty way of devolving quickly. When i go to car shows and honestly tell someone i think their car looks a bit on the trashy side they proudly hear none of it and laugh it off. i have never had someone blow their top, even when i fell down laughing at an El Camino in Palm Springs, CA with an airbrushed velvet style mural of Elvis and Tupac "In Memory" on the hood. In the end though no matter how beastly (and i dare say painful to look at) that purple velour interiored eyesore was that man took more pride in that car than anyone i have ever met, because he liked it...but i still say it was ultra gay. Plus he never explained the connection between Tupac and Elvis, I still don't get that.

I think the minute you start using coments like, "ultra gay"...you are going to get a confrontation. You are absolutely correct when you say that you are allowed to have your opinion, but there are constructive ways to give your opinion and your choice of words are destructive. If someone decides to spend their hard earned money on something and you call it names...well, they'll automatically go into defensive mode.

I still disagree with your comparisons. Let's take the sidecar for instance: Maybe the guy never uses the sidecar, but maybe the way the bike rides or looks has some nostalgic value to that guy. So, at the end it becomes functional to that particular person.

What is is you like about your car? Color, mufflers coming out the back, shape. To someone else that may be (like you say) ultra gay, but to you is the greatest thing in the world.

Would it be reasonable to say that "functional" is an abstract term?

You are right, sometimes the choice of words i use offends people. Although i think to be honest people have become a bit oversensitive when it comes to politically correct language, my gay friends find it amusing when i use the term ultra gay, they say stupid things i do are ultra bland and i am not offended, however my intention was not to enrage any gay mustang enthusiasts.

You actually make my point for me on the sidecar, i find it non-functional, like a side scoop, but someone else may like added drag to their vehicle so they would find the item functional, i just would not personally agree with them. That is the beauty of it, they can do what they want regardlss of how others feel about it.

What do i like about my car?, lots of things. I have loved the body style since i first saw a 69 as a young boy and fell in love when they (no flames please) dropped the ugly excuse for a mustang we have had for so many years (CobraII owners, i am here for your attacks as well). In the end though i am cool with the way my 06 looks with the exception of the wing and the wheels, i will change them and the SC will probably also have me make a change to the hood as well. But the things someone like myself values (function over form) are IRS, Automatic Climate Control, less plastic in the interior, forged internals, headers, 6 speed man....those are the parts i want, and look my interior wants could be construed as ultra gay, but to me they are not.......now do you follow what i have been trying to say the entire time?

Yes of course, the word is abstract, in this life there are few to no absolutes.

:D Shinny rims?:D Add-on body parts are OK, but you get to a point where more is less in my opinion. More you add on, you get to a point where it's too much and detracts from the looks of the car. The last Firebirds(Tran-Am) and Camaro's were a case in point.
