Alright, I want to build a Torque Monster 302 based stroker to go in my Jeep YJ Project.
I posted about this a long while back and came up with this combo:
CHP347 10.5:1, AFR185 (58cc), Comp XE266HR or 274, RPMII Intake, 70TB, 75MAF, 30# injectors and all other supporting pieces

So let's get some input going on here and figure something out.
 
You don't necessarily need to run lots of RPMs to make big torque number, but you do need cubes...so a stroker is a must. Personally i'd go with a 351W stroked as much as you can afford, with a roots supercharger on top.
 
I'm only looking at 1500-5600rpm, not that much imo.

I don't need huge cubes or a blower. That's why I want to base the build off of a 302.

At first you said u needed a TQ monster.. which would immediately tell me you need cubes. But you just want a 302 based engine.

I think it would be best for you to post up the numbers u need to achieve and in what rpm range u would ultimately want to achieve them in.

IE. You want 300 RWTQ @ 2,500rpm... etc

It would be MUCH easier to put together a good combo with that information.
 
yeah those kind of numbers are pushing it. why dont you just build a snotty 302 and put a huge gear in it to get you to the torque band very quickly. i know one of my teachers has a rock crawler (i know a little different than a mudding toy) that has a custom 4 spd in it and it will only run about 3 mph in first gear at 6000 rpm...but it puts like 3000 ft/lbs to the tires because of the gear reduction in the trans and diff.
 
You'll be lucky....almost record breaking....to build even a 351 that makes 450ft/lbs of torque at 2k RPM. At that point, you're going to be making ridiculous numbers at the upper RPM range. You're talking full blown racing motor in your Jeep.
 
you can build a 347 with huge low end numbers but its gonna take some good engine building. youre best bet is gonna be to get a custom cam. tell them you want as much torque as possible as low as possible. its simply a matter of advancing the valve events farther than normal. but im sure crane or comp cams makes a good towing/low end cam. make some calls to comp cams or even summit and see what they say.
 
Still even then... 350RW TQ out of a naturally aspirated small block is going to be a push at less than 2500 rpms, just from what I have seen. But of course thats not much. You can build a cheap(relatively) 351 based long rod motor that will make TONS of TQ for less money than your going to spend trying to get those numbers out of a 302..... But then again... HUGe gears make for a good time too when your playin in the mud.. I'd like to hear more about whay you decide on, and the numbers ya get when you get around to it.
