I gotta lose some weight!

A good diet is the best way to maintain proper weight but exercise certainly helps. Stop drinking soda and eating greasy potato chips, start jogging in the mornings. Start by going a mile round trip and work your way up, stop for quick breaks if you have to. Crunches and ab workouts will make a big difference, and if you have a gym membership i'd say make yourself a routine like others on here have suggested, and stick with it until you achieve you're desired weight.

another thing that helps me is when you are in a bind and hit up the fast food, just get a large burger, skip fries and whatever else, saves money and calories.

You can easily drink enough soda in a day to take the place of meals, like somone else said watch out for that.

ive been working out/exercising 3 times a week for almost 4 years now, and seriously I can eat anything I want and not have to worry about it, its all about moderation, meal size, and making exercise part of your life.

you can always find out how many calories your supposed to eat in a day; number crunch the calorie intake, ie. I just ate burger thats 1000 calories

I forget how many calories are in 1 gram of fat, gotta add that to the total calorie count

I'm in the same boat.... just 6 foot tall. Not into that exercise/work thing. LOL

I gave up soft drinks for the second time in my life. Made it 9 months back in college, then some stupid waitress brought me a regular instead of diet. Ruined me.

So far so good. After the first month, your energy level will suddenly rise.

Did you drop any weight.... you guys might not belive me but all i eat is fryed foods and some meat and pizza.... im 5'11'' and weigh like 188 i really wanna loose some weight but im constantly drinking soda once i tried to switch to only water but got really really sick from it.... a list of the fods i eat

Pizza Home made and out
Fast food burgers/frys/fried chicken.
grilled cheese
pizza bites
mac + cheese
pancakes
hot dogs only ballpark and oscar myer all beef...
and everything i eat is loaded with salt... i love how it tastes and ill eat it straight out of the shaker...

and thats about all i eat... i dont have a taste for anything else and my g/f is constantly scared that im going to die... im being serious.... i know its not good but any other food i try makes me want to vommit.... none actually belives me when i tell them this is like all i really eat... but i make my own pizza and its not all greasy and **** i have a pizza cooker... so i buy dough $1.30 cento sauce $.99 and a lb of cheese when it goes on sale for $1.99 and that will make like 2/3 pizzas so inbetween class i always make my self a pizza.... i mean im still in decent shape... but im thinking about starting to ride bike/skate on campus and switch to diet sodas/water and see if i can get down to like 170lbs... i played soccer for 15 years and thats probally the only reason im in shape and i have a high metabolisim... just wondering if any one could offer up some advice... there is also 2 gyms on campus... but i just dont feel right working out at the gym because im just not the person 2.... but i think the bikeing around campus is a good start... ive also been parking farther away when i go to stores so i walk a bit more.... there had been a few cases of medical problems in my family with diabetes which also kinda wants me to get in better shape... i do check my blood preasure every once in awhile... and its always really really good.... In the summer i surf and thats a hell of a work out.... i dont mean to hijack or for people to rant about my helth i think im in decent shape... im also a waiter and i used a pedometer and it told me i walked about 9 miles in one shift at work

I used to weigh 300 pounds back in high school, and ended up eating a lot of salad and doing a lot of running. I started lifting weights my Freshman year of College and got down to about 206, but hit a plateau I couldn't get beyond, and now weigh about 215. I hope to eventually get down to 185, but with working 30 hours a week and taking 14 credit hours I don't have time for anything else.

Good for you man.... 85 pounds is alot of weight to lose.. And you probably lost more fat than that since you have been lifting too.

Thanks. It's always little comments like that that help me stay focused and able to at the very least maintain my current weight.

Kind of like with our cars, nothing makes me feel better than when someone takes notice of something about the car and says something nice about it.

there are some simple things that can really cut calories too, like if you go to mcdonalds, get a grilled chicken sandwish with no mayo, no fries, and a diet coke. that's about half the calories of a big mac with fries and a coke.

also if you can build your workout into your daily routine, it helps alot. i used to ride my bike to work and home and i was in the best shape of my life. now i work too far away and i can't do that anymore. i have gained about 20 lbs and just passed 200 myself. i'm also 5'10"

little things add up after a while.

i used to work at a hardware store and i weighed around 160 at 6'1". I left there a year and half ago and got a desk job. I now weigh 190. I used to be able to lift 150 bags easy, not anymore. the other week, i tried and couldn't even lift it.

it's all about keeping up with it. if you let yourself go to long, its harder and harder to get back into shape. The new years resolution is to get back to 160 before May.

Well, I've been watching what I eat since last monday, drinking alot of water and just trying not to pig out alot.. I've lost 4 pounds since last monday and think I should start exercising. I've been drinking water like crazy also. 2.5 gallons today and I've been pissing like never before...

Is it bad to be drinking that much water?

Also, is there anything else I should/shouldn't be doing?

lol as long as u drink the 2 gallons over the course of the day.

you can die from drinking to much water, but as long as you dont drink 2.5 gallons in 3 minutes youll be fine :D

apparently running a marathon and consuming gallons of water is really bad..

Yeah, it was over the course of the day... I just feel really weird right now.. Like I donno.. my body feels funny.

very good start , when you drink water try not to swallow air cause you gonna fart a lot :D seriously ,you can add some vitamins like centrum or somethong like that to your diet and yes start working out , just don't get crazy on the begining , take steps and find something that will motivate you
think of the chicks , think of the chick

Yeah, I didn't know of any vitamins to take or anything.. What is centrum and what does it do? I don't wanna take steroids cuz' they make your woo-hoo get tiny [or so i've heard? ] Just something to help me lose weight atm... once I get there I think I'll be able to be motivated enough to build some muscle.

Motivation = boobies....gotcha.

like everyone else said.. the key to losing weight is your diet! Stop drinking soda or other sugar drinks, no junk food/processed foods. 6-8 small meals a day to keep your metabolism going. A good multivitamin(I use GNC's ultra mega gold, $16 for 45 day supply), 1-2 gallons of water a day, and protein(Optimum nutrition 100% whey, $45-50 for 10lbs).

It is A LOT easier to lose weight/workout if you can get a set routine. That way you won't miss meals and working out.

I'm currently 6'4 245lbs and starting to get back into getting in shape as well since I've slacked hardcore since I spent my summer at the beach and my last semester of college. So basically I drank my life away lol.

Good luck!

Roids don't make your pee-wee get smaller. It does however harden your testicals if you use it for long long long long periods of time.

HBO had a documentary about steroids. There is no proof that steroids have any short term or long term side effects when used by HEALTHY adult males over 21 years old in MODERATION. I have tried it. And I felt like a million bucks. But the stuff I had caused bad muscle soreness and I was working as a mechanic at the time...so I trashed it.

I felt really really really amazing on the juice. But I only did it twice. Gave me energy like I have never had before.

Now I just take True mass protein, no-explode, creatine, animal pack (amino and vitamins basically), and sterol for muscle endurance. Oh and fish oil.

I have started a real weight lifters diet also. one cup of oatmeal and 3 eggs for breakfast, then a protein shake, lunch is usually a turkey or tuna on wheat and fruit, then i will eat a chicken breast a couple hours later with veggies, then post workout shake, then chicken or red meat and a salad. Usually some peanuts in there somewhere also.

Low fat, high calorie basically. But a pretty clean diet. Trying to gain weight right now. Plan on cutting before it warms up.

I also weight train 5 days a week and do cardio 2 right now for about 20 min. Will probably kick it up too 4 times a week when I decide to cut.

My advice to anyone who wants to start lifting: Stick with proven multi-joint workouts ie: bench press, deadlifts, squats, rows ect. Also don't try to throw up massive weights...get your forms down then the weight will follow.

I also take 15 hours of college and work 40 hours a week and still have plenty of time to hit the gym everyday. Wether I have to get up at 7 to do it or go after work at 9. If there is a will there is a way. I also come from a long line of alcoholics so I do not drink, smoke, or do drugs. Being single also gives you lots more time lol.

:nice:

Great advice. Training hard and training smart are two different things. These basics also burn the most calories... think about the muscle groups you work in a squat: Spinal erectors, gluts, hamstrings, quads, calves, hip abductors... back and pretty much your entire lower body.

One exercise. Now compare that with a typical "leg day:"

Leg Press - quads
Calf raises - calves
hamstring curls - hamstrings
leg extensions - quads

Thats 3 more exercises and you're working less muscles. I like to work out, but if I can spend less time in the gym and get more results, well sign me up for that!
