Granatelli K Member / A arms problem

One question I have though. Are your front wheels flush with the fenders when you look at it from the front. I had mine in 2 cars and it wants to be offset to the drivers side, but according to the plumbbob points , its square. Im wondering if I got a bad k member.

It's offset because of where Ford initiates their tolerance stack up. The tolerance starts at the front drivers side wheel and all excess is pushed/pulled to/from the passenger side. Some factory k-members are better than others…but in the case of aftermarket k-members it's a bit different. Because they are able to hold tighter tolerances, the factory tolerance can be compounded so that it's quite often noticeable. Adding wider front tires with different offsets makes it even more noticeable.

I have the 98 cobra wheels and with it square, its about 1-1.5 inches out on the drivers side. I think it would turn better to the right but it just looks funny. I called Granatelli and they would be willing to help me out but what if ai get another k member and its the same way.

Chances are it's not the drivers side that's sticking out…but the passenger side that's sucked in. Either way though I'd still take them up on their offer on the off-chance that it is indeed the k-member.

It is set forward because a K member is designed to increase handling characteristics, and the more weight that is placed behind the front wheels (or between the front and rear), the better the car will handle. If you'll notice, a stock 5.0 plops the engine directly on top of the tires...very bad and very front-heavy design. 3/4 of an inch forward helps to put more weight between the axles, which is a good thing.

Yeah it seems like a smokin deal but they sell them right from granatelli for 350. the said they would knock off 150 and make it 200 plus shipping. summit sells them for 250 and thats where i bought it from. So I called them and they were willing to do 20% off. Which would make it 200. Instead of the Granatelli Im getting the qa1 and Im gonna put the Granatelli a arms on and see how I make out. It should still set the wheels forward im hoping. I just didnt want to end up with another k member that was crooked if thats the way they make all of them.

All the k-member brands move the front wheels forward except PA Racing.

I have a Pa Racing k-member on order now, Once I get it in I will let you guys know about the quality.

To fix the current problem with the wheels to far forward you need to buy a set of adjustable arms with the rod ends. That way all you have to do is position the spacer to get the arm moved back. Kind of like adjusting a bumpsteer kit up or down.

AJE doesn't either...and I think there is one or two other brands that also dont.

It would be easier to tell you the ones that do move the front wheels forward. As far as I know thats MM ,Granatelli , and more than likely Griggs which would be the sh#@ but I could buy a pretty nice stang for what it costs. Their SLA setup is around 5000. Itgets rid of the strut and makes it a double a arm setup with a regular shock to replace it. No more wieght on the srtut towers when running coil over. Id love to have it but im gonna have to win the lottery or be on OVERHAULIN. Unfortunately I dont live on the west coast..:(

Summits pretty food about getting stuff out. I ordered th k member on wednesday at 130 and it was on the doorstep at 1100 the next day. anyway I put in the QA1 and I think itll b alright. wheel doesnt stick out as much and its alot less cluddered. Pros of the QA1 are , you can bolt your steering rack right up to it instead of having to buy different bushings, more clearance for the steering shaft, and its alot more simple. After looking at it with some buddies, we all agreed that it should be OK for the coners. Well see. The wheels are forward like I wanted also. I called QA1 and they said that IT does move the wheels forward. I thought that was all in the control arm.
