Just got my BBK shorties, and MAC catback bolted on. The car sounds SO much better. I was happy with the MAC's on my V6, so I knew they'd sound good on the 5.0.

Funny thing is the old catback was making a rattling sound on the passenger side. Since it was just Flowmasters with the stock 2.25 pipes, and Ford hangers welded on, I thought one of the hangers brokes free and was rattling.
When I got under the car the hangers were still on fine. But when I cut the catback in half, and removed it I noticed the mufflers were rattling. In both mufflers, the baffling(or fins in the Flowmasters) broke loose and is rattling around inside.
Now, I don't know how old the mufflers are since they were on the car when I bought it; but I didn't like Flowmasters before I bought the car, and now I definately don't like them.:notnice:

Wait...so you're saying those fins inside are SUPPOSED to break off and rattle, making the exhaust sound like ass? That doesn't sound right.
I can actually touch the broken fins when they fall by the outlet.

The Mac catback I got was used for ~5k miles, and it doesn't rattle.

ya, macs are great, however i like flowmasters too and if it werent for flowmasters sounding kinda mellow in the upper rpms compared to others (like mac) i probably would have looked no further than flowies. glad to see we have another satisfied mac user:D

The only reason I don't like Flowmaster is because everyone and their brother uses them, despite there being better mufflers out there for the same price(like MAC).
I may have to get Borlas for my '66 though, since I don't need both cars sounding the same.:D

BTW, Your car sounds like it looks just like mine. Do you have any pics? I'd like to see the Chin Spoiler.

I also love the Mac catback. It's so much deeper than Flowmasters IMHO.

The flows (to my ear) are a lot higher pitch and hallow sounding - not my thing especially.

Hmmm ive always loved the sound of a 40 series... i ran one on the probe and it gave exclent sound... the custom exhaust shop i took it to said it would sound to tinney and told me not to do it... i went with the flows and got a great sound... i like the american thunder i have on the stang... its got a nice tone but is quiet up top... glad to hear you finally got the sound you wanted!

The catbacks are one of the only Mac products that are actually worth a look. I don't know how old mine is since it came with the car, but idle is nice and deep but not too loud and WOT sounds damn nice. My only complaint is the excessive drone.... chicks don't like cars that drone on the inside :( . Once I get under the car this spring I will judge wheather or not to replace it since it looked pretty rusty last time I was under there. It'll be a Magnaflow system next time

it was a toss up between Macs and Spintechs when i changed from flows. i went with spintechs and love 'em. still curious what the macs would have sounded like tho...

Glad to hear you like them :D

I meant to PM you to see if everything went well...how did the coating on the headers hold up during shipping?

I'm glad you like the Mac catback as well...when I had it on my car, it would stand out at the track because it didnt have flowmasters on it!

There was actually a car that was identical to mine...down to the engine mods...the only way people could tell them apart was the sound of my exhaust...well, that and my car went 11's, not 12's like his:D

The coating held up good. Now that they've been heated I don't see any flaking or anything.:nice:
