You know why I need a welder? Ever counted how many holes are in a foxy body's firewall and fender wells? They have to go away. Sooooo I've been hunting for a mig weld. Do you have one for sale or know of anyone that does? Or do you have one I could rent from you?

I went to Airgas and did some searching and pricing. I like the millermatic 140, the 140 with auto-set, and the millermatic 180. The 140 runs about 712 with the running gear. The cyl. is about another 150 or so. I also want a welder to finish the install on the door bar. What welders have you used and which ones do you like for the back yard mustang mechanic?

If it's not raining I will ride the GSXR 1000 to the track Friday night. See ya.

Wellllllllll if ya talk to roger nice enough then maybe i can bring his machine to your place on sat or sunday and give ya a hand? That will also give my new speedglas hood a trying on this wimpy sheet metal instead of the heavy wire for once :nice: You bet see ya friday at the track! peace

Oh geez, the Mustang body is probably only .120. I am used to welding metal 2" thick! My arc welder will definitely kill it as it only runs on AC. If you are going to mig weld and do it for the sole purpose of filling holes, then make sure you use a DC power source, .020 wire and set it as electrode NEGATIVE. If you don't know what I am talking about and I lost you, then you probably should not try this. May do more harm than good.

Yes, I am filling the 190 + holes that I counted (thanks John, after the races I had to go home and count them) and will be using the welder for the roll bar, seat brace and seat harness mount.
I have a cheap welder now, no gas, splatters like crazy and I am ready to move up. Time is an issue since the two post car company never shipped the lift, its only been 12 weeks now. Going with a Bend-Pak or Rotary.

So I need a welder now. This week a friend at work has "contacts" with Miller and Lincoln, if that does not pan out I will be going to Airgas and getting the Millermatic 140 with Auto-set, 115v. They have the best price so far.

Ben sweet! Sorry it took so long but here is how i did the passenger side wiring. Dont know if it will help any? So thats how many holes i filled? :bang:

Being a welder I am fully aware of just how long that must have taken. WOOOW. You guys are insane!

I don't think I would even bother to even do that to my own car, but then again, it's far from nice looking as well. For now.....

I know where you are welding at I seen you down at the yard working for Cascade General. I was working down there for alittle while on nights till I went back into the field. You should think about going to work out in the field pays alot more then down there and not as much stupid crap goes on as far as safety wise goes.

Just got my welder today. Now I have more holes than when I started. I got the Millermatic 140 with auto-set. On the bigger stuff it makes me look like a pro, but I need more practice with the thinner metals.

The fender thickness is only 18 gauge. With .024 wire that sucker blew through that fender faster than a fat kid at a buffet. Working on lowering the voltage and wire feed speed. I don't know if it will take .020 wire or not. Have to check into it more.

The brass is working well John, thanks!
