Whats the biggest cam i can go with while still using the stock heads, and what rockers best suite that cam? The car is basically stock with the exception of exhaust/intake and im looking for the most power, im not concerned about the idle as it doesnt bother me. Thanks

the stock springs cant handle much lift. i say use a b-cam. there good cams and wil lwork with stock components. and the stock rockers work great.

Personally, I'd save the money for heads/intake first. The cam is the last thing I'd touch. You really won't gain much of anything from a cam swap with stock heads other than a lumpy idle.

lol you could actually make the car slower by camming a stock head motor.

I'm pretty sure my notch was slower when I bought it than it would have been with the factory HO cam. Motor was totally stock but for a TFS-1 cam. Car was trapping 97 mph, which is OK for a stocker with a 5-speed, but had absolutely no bottom end below 1600, and actually seemed to fall off worse than a stock cammed motor above 4K rpm.

Yeah I would go with heads and a cam. You can pick up a set of ported E7s or GT40Ps for cheap. But I have heard good things about the E303 cam and also the TricFlow stage 1 cam. But if you going to put in a cam put a set of valve springs in too. If you need some I have some with no miles for cheap. PM me for details.

I have also installed the TFS-1 cam on my stock E7 heads, and it seems like I have a better top end but slow bottom end. Seemed like somewhat of a gain after install, although I was never just blown away!
I am going to install some GT-40s, port match with my lower cobra intake and install some 1.7 RR's.
Before the cam and headers I had 220 rwhp, havent dynoed since the cam but would only expect 240....maybe. I plan to dyno after my head and RR's and can only hope for 275!

The stock 5.0 cam is very good, making it one of the last things I would change. I would look at the heads intake and headers. For a budget build I would say GT40 heads, GT40 intake, and BBK headers "ebay" You will not beat them with out spending more money.

Agreed.. the cam should be the last thing... that being said, the stock heads will need a spring up grade for any thing!! then keep the cam under .500 lift and install the cams in at 4-6* advanced to help with the lowend..( depending on camshaft used of course)

Springs.. camshaft.. timing chain assy and you will see a gain.. and when the Heads get there you will love the increase!! Ported E7s/ GT40s/ or P s will work great!!

Just me.................................

It is odd but camming these 302's without doing anything to the heads or intake is silly. Most other engines you will pick up some power but Ford did a very good job of matching the cam to intake and heads. You basically should be doing all 3 as a package.
