Anyone know where to find a door? or anyone have experience with the aftermarket

I was gone- wife needed something from side of car- wife has limited stick shift expereince-

Decides to try and back car up a foot-

400+ hp- no power brakes+ steering+ one wife= she backed it into her BRAND NEW (as in 2 week old) Expedition Eddie Bauer-

door and 1/4 are f'd up-

i have seen a ton of doors(original) on craiglist for 100-200 bucks. I have heard horror stories of aftermarket doors.

My passenger's side after market door from Mustangs Unlimited just sucked. The shop said it was a ton of work to get it to fit.

My driver's side after market door from NPD, supposedly from a better MFG, was only slightly better in terms of getting it to fit.

At the end of the day, all the doors fit beautifully. It just took a ton of work.

the aftermarket doors are noticeably lighter and the threaded plates for the hinges are low quality steel and strip out easily. Also, if you get an after market door I would test fit it WITH the handle, latch, lock and even the window all installed before doing any work on it. This is b/c the handle mouting hole on my driver-side aftermarket door was off by just a hair and it caused the latch rod to bind against part of the inside of the door.

Theres a few Mustang salvage shops around or can you re skin the door is is the shell bent too???

I can reskin the door-

she came back at an angle and ran the rear 1/4 into the Expedition first, then continued down the door-

so it could be reskinned, as unfortunately the rear 1/4 took the brunt of it -

then i would reskin.remove door,remove handle and key cylinder,take a grinder with 80 grit and grind off the edge,pry off the skin,remove remaing edge,put on new skin with adhesive,crimp edges,replace handle, bam done in a day

Was this one of the new and improved doors sold by NPD? I have a couple of those at the body shop (since March...) and they've been good so far. We've only installed them on the car, the threaded plates seemed ok. And then installed the latch and some of the lock rods, fit fine. Just wondering if there may be a rocky road ahead.... Thanks.

I got some aftermarket doors for my 66 when I bought the car and they are absolute crap. I dont know where they came from, but I can tell you they suck terribly. I ended up cutting most of the original rust off and replacing sheetmetal.

craigslist to the rescue-
I got a driver side/ passenger side door for $140 for both of them-

passenger side is junk- rust/bondo-

driver side has a little bondo, but if you look from the back side, its still original paint, so the bondo is not very deep-

that and he gave me a bunch of junk trim which is worthless-

As far as I knw there's only one manufacturer of full repro doors -- Dynacorn. Maybe they changed something along the line to make improvements.

I have a new repro driver's side door on the '68 I'm just starting, but I'm going to replace it with an original. Anyone want it?
