My car is burning oils, im currently using maxlife 5w/30. The car is burning oils, my mechanic saying that I should use heavy oils 20w/50....... something like that, any recomment oils or oil addictive ( lucas ) thanks

you need to find another mechinex........Do Not use ANYTHING heavier than 10W40 in a Modular or you will run the risk of ballooning the oil filter...how is your car "burning" oil? do you sea bluish' smoke on start-up or when you get on it?

using a qt of oil every 1k miles is considered normal asper FoMoCo.......
more info please

The car burn alot oil when HEAVY stop and go traffic.
If I turn off the car and turn it back on right away, I saw a cloud of smoke.
Some time it smoke if I rev high on it.

so 10w/40 is safe ? what oil should I use ?

10W40 is safe but thicker oil is NOT going to slow-down the oil burning process..... if it is burning oil, no sense in buying the $$ synthetic, just get some regular old "dino" oil, like Motorcraft, Quaker State, Castrol or?
how many miles on the engine?........... could be just worn-out valve seals

137k miles and Im trying to let it survice the winter, next summer will drop in PI engine. I think the valve seal too. Is lucas any good ?

Like Randy said, the oil filter will balloon, and the motor clearances are very tight, so these engines can't handle super thick oil. I would do a compression test/leak down test to see what the rings/valves look like. If the test shows low numbers, and the numbers rise after pouring 1tsp of oil down the cylinder, then your rings are worn. If that's the case, I would run 10w30 "dyno" oil, with a oil seperator to catch the oil in the intake system of the car. Lucas is fine too, just don't keep it in the engine for more than 3,000 miles. The lucas might actually free sticky lifters or seal the valve seals a little. But I would do the compression test first, just to see what the problem is.
