30 or 36 injectors

Negative, the '03-'04 Cobra's use a 39lb/hr injector. They're the newer style like the ones used on the '05-up S197 GT's and use the EV6 connector. They can be made to work with the older Fox's, but need the EV6 to EV1 adaptors (which are sold through FRPP PN M-14464-A8*) to make them work. The Lightning’s on the other hand used the green top 42lb/hr injectors which utilize the older EV1 style connector. I have a set of them in my car right now and the work really well and run just like stock at idle and under light throttle.

39#s that would be a good choice for me if I cant get a set of used 36#ers

Where did you get them? How much?

I Dont like tunning injectors down too much. I had a hard time doing it in the past. Because at some point i feel like you have to turn them and lose some spray pattern. I on the other hand if the car is good with 30 would go 36 one step up is nice. I do feel like FFRP left a big gap between 30 and 42. I will look into the 39s:SNSign:

I originally had a set of the old blue top 36lb/hr unit's in my current set up and they proved too small when pushed at the top end (I’m making over 400hp with a blower car though). The shop I was doing my tuning at had a used set of the green top 42lb/hr units from a customer who went to 60lb/hr injectors in his Modified Lightning, so I picked them up there for about $350 at the time. You can get them all over Ebay though and probably for even less than that.

Trust me when I say, the 42's are able to be tuned to work every bit as drivable and reliable as the stock 19lb/hr injectors. All the tuner needs to do is address the proper fuel strategies, slope rates, etc and you're golden. Any tuner worth their salt and some decent SCT software should be able to accomplish this.

If you really insisted on 39lb/hr Cobra units, they'll work too but to be honest, you're spending a lot of extra money for nothing (since the 42lb injectors themselves can be had for about the same price, or less in a lot of cases and you’ll still need the adapters for the 39’s to work with the older style wiring harness on your Fox). Go with the 36’s if you can still find a set for that added margin of safety over the 30’s, but otherwise shoot for the 42’s. As I stated, they will tune and run every bit as well and are a direct swap compared to the 39’s.

Well....if money it tight, go ahead and get a set of 30lb/hr units and see how they work out. They can be had dirt cheap (since they're very popular and come with a lot of base blower kit that are almost always swapped out right away for bigger injectors). Your tuner should be able to tell right away within the first serious dyno run if they're going to cut the mustard or not. If they're too small, then no big deal…..you didn't pay a lot for them and you should be able to unload them fairly easy and put whatever you get for them towards something bigger. If they'll work out, then keep then and relish in the fact that you got your car up and running for the least amount of hassle. Then, if you’ve got more power laid out in the future via a power adder or what not, keep in mind that the injector upgrade will be mandatory then as well.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s only money…..getting into a project like this, you had to know you’d be spending a lot of it. :D

Well just bought a set of 36#ers on Ebay 175.00.

thank you very much for steering me the way of the 36# injectors. I wish I would have known the 42 #s were Ok but my reasoning was that Forced Induction cars are running 42's I bought them when I was going with a SC and now that I am not going with a SC they will be too big.

Well live and learn

I might be misunderstanding things here
but
I will give a bit more info to clearly state my above thoughts :)

When I was talking about ... tuning ... to take away fuel

I was NOT taking about a mechanical thing like an afpr :nono:

I was talking about accessing the pcm with an interface like PMS, Tweecer
or having a shop burn you a chip ;)

The chance of making large injectors like 36's or 42's successfully work
for A L L driving conditions by playing around with the fuel pressure
would be close to impossible IMHO.

For future reference, keep in mind. Even the most powerful forced induction street cars running 42's, 55's even 60lb/hr injectors still idle and run around under vacuum just like a stock non-power adder car does. Only when the added airflow is in demand do their characteristics change drastically. So don't be too concerned with having the ability to tune larger injectors for daily driving.

As for living and learning....we sure do. And ohhhh what an expensive lesson it can be at times. :D

Thank you for the correction. Maybe I got them confused with the Lightning.

If I'm not mistaken, the L runs 39lbers as well.

You are mistaken. :)

These are what the Lightning runs and they're rated at 42lb/hr

Thats why you see a lot of dudes running Lightning Mass Air Flows (LMAF) and 42lb injectors... kind of a package deal.

Make sure you inspect those used injectors well, especially the little rubber ring around the tip. Don't know the word for it but make sure everything is tip top. Good deal on them.

Well I hope I did the right thing...It sucks but I should have known better....guess i should have known better I had no luck down tunning my 30s before and always had a pig rich condition. I didnt really mind due to that I was running Nitrous but, I figured this time I just wanted a properly tuned NA combo.

Oh well whatcha gonna do? I Have learnt way to many lessons with this build.

I can say you learned the lesson to ... research before acting :)
and
Inquire from those who've done what you seek to do ;)
cause
Them folk have the fruit of success :nice:

I can also say I have spent W A Y more money :bang:
than you did to learn lessons in life the hard way :Word: :rlaugh:

I look forward to seeing how your new combo turns out :D
