Hello,

I just added a 90 GT to my family. This car replaces an 86 LX 5.0L Vert which got totaled by the insurance company. It is a nice looking car with 18 year old car issues. (Image attached) The person I bought the car from swaped the engine with a rebuilt unit from a wrecked GT Hatch.

Issues I have so far deal with the Tranny. I do not have any Speedo functions so I am assuming its the cable. With that being said here is what happens. The tranny shifts early and is very stubborn down shifting. Since this is a AOD-E I am assuming my questions are as follows.

1. Does the Tranny use the transducer to know how and when to shift? If so, how can I tell if its bad?

2. If this is like the tranny on the 86 and uses a cable, how then can i check to see if that cable is adjusted correctly? I am assuming since the engine swap that maybe this cable is not adjusted.

The transmission is an AOD, not an AODE. The E wasn't used until 94. It sounds as though the throttle valve cable needs to be adjusted, assuming that the rest of the transmission is in good shape. Google is your friend. You should be able to find the instructions for adjusting it very easily.

Sweet I just picked up an 89 gt vert and had the same problem.... car would shift extremely fast or it would feel like it was slipping. All it was, was a little plastic grmmet that holds the cable to the throttle body thingy...lol I snapped it back in and it shifts like butter! If you cant find it IM me with your number and I'll call you to help you find it!
