Yesterday while pulling away from a toll booth i got on her a little hard and i was up againt the wall i heard pinging, I use super and i know my timing is up pretty high so last nite i stopped by a friends house and while i was there i checked my timing, I think the car is like in the high 20's ...How can it be runing so great if thats true, and it cranks perfect when hot...when it was lower the car would run crappy, the only way the car seems to run good is what the timig so advanced why is that? is something wrong? is the balancer off? What can i do?

85's have really low compression, that's why. But yeah, disconnect the vacuum line going to the carb, then set your timing to 14 degrees (that's where mine liked it when stock) and see how that works out for you.

Thanks guys for the advice yes i had the dizzy disconnected...i run super gas...and my plugs are gapped at .035 right now for furture use of nitrous or a blower...so will the plug gap cause a problem...when i back the timing down the car dont run so hot...thats why i have it advanced so much it runs great but pings at top end can my plugs be causing the problem?????

The plug gap could be a reason why.

0.035" is small for N/A. I understand you have it set there for future use, but you are N/A now and resetting the gap later is no big deal

Check the counter weights and the springs in the dizzy. Ill bet you either have one broken or the weights are sticking or rusty.

This is a good suggestion.

It's also a really dumb idea to buy/adjust parts for "future" mods because in the meantime you are losing performance or hurting your engine. Especially something so easy to change like spark plugs.

Where are they located so i can check? i know in the dist...but is it under that plate if so how does that come off so i can look and do i have to remove the dizzy??? to get a good look at it?
