The story of this past month in my life...

Well, haven't been on here much in a while, so I figured I'd share with you guys. The car has been through alot in the past month, ranging from very good to very bad.

Let's start with the good:

Finally swapped the heads, car sounds downright NASTY and hauls ass. Here's the list of what went on (the rockers on the heads in the pic were not used, I swapped my crane rollers onto them, along with triple valve springs).

- Holley Systemax Heads
- CNC Ported Lower Cobra Intake
- 75mm Pro Products TB
- 76mm C&L MAF (w/ 30lb sampling tube)
- 30lb injectors
- ARP head studs
- ARP Intake Bolts
- ARP Stainless 12pt header bolts
- Fel Pro 9333 head gaskets
- Fel Pro 1262 intake gaskets
- Comp Cams Lifters
- Trick Flow Hardened Push Rods
- New plugs and such...

Got the car together and it was smoking...the heads needed new valve seals. Back apart it came, new comp cam valve seals went in, put her back together, everything was awesome. Took it to the Flashlight Drags the next day (these are legal, sanctioned street races on an air strip, fun time, no time slips or trees) and beat an LS1 T/A with exhaust and gears, a full bolt-on 99 GT, tied my buddy's 03 swapped (stock motor) 99 cobra, and a couple other (not exciting) cars, lol.

Next day, I woke up and took the car out to wash her up, then head out to a car show. I was on my way home to change clothes and was goin around a bend and there was a huge dead animal in the middle of the lane, with my car having the exhaust (and pretty much the whole car) about 2" off the ground, I went around the animal. In the process, I hit some loose gravel on the side of the road and that sent the car into a slide, I tried everything I could to correct it, but the front passenger side came around and hit the guard rail, then came to rest with the rear bumper just slightly resting against the guard rail. I was only goin about 30-35mph when this happened. It coulda been worse I guess. Here's the carnage:

After a day of my world coming to an end and feeling sick to my stomach, I took the car to a body shop to wait for the insurance adjuster to come and look at it. I have full coverage and a $100 deductible, so as long as it wasn't totalled, I was fine.

Well I just heard back yesterday that my insurance company will be fixing the car, I will have a collision on my driving record, but honestly, that was the last thing on my mind.

here is how it sits right now:

Supposed to be done in 2-3 weeks. At least I can sleep at night now, knowing that my car will see the road again soon. :flag:

Ouch !!!! least your ok and considering the worst I'd say you came out alright.

Specially with it being dark in the mornings now.... I scan like a mofo in the morning for deer..I figure its just a matter of time til I wack one or it jumps out.....:(

Almost nailed a Coy dog a few months back.. He came blowing outta the woods right out in the road within feet of me ...:D

Damn, its sad to see your car like that, but glad to see you're ok. Your car was actually the inspiration for my buddy's '97 cobra. Hope you get it back soon.

not gonna lie but its an inspiration for my car...

ive been wondering where uve been dan! glad to see your ok... like paul said above, it couldve been worse, atleast everything is salvagable!

how were the cops, did they think u were dickin around in the car? atleast thats how theyd see it around me, regardless of an animal in the road or not :notnice:

Sorry to hear this. At least the air bags didnt deploy cuz they would have totaled it. Our cars braking sucks btw. Its a little better with the cobra brakes but it still sucks. I have not investigated why. The antilock doesnt work worth a poop thats for sure.

that really really really sucks Dan. are you going to replace it as is or do something different? is it just the front end? the airbags deployed and they didn't total it? wow. at least you have all winter to get it back up to 1st place quality.

Glad your ok Dan and the car didn't make it to bad overall. Nothing major. I'd be a little pissed though about the ins putting a collision on your record. Id ask them what were you suppose to do? Drive in the other lane where you could have hit another car head on... hit the large animal..or try to avoid it which you did . It was an impossible situation, actually the more I type this the more I get pissed that they cited it as your fault.

I haven't been here much lately either but Rich told me what happened so I figured I should check it out. I was so upset when I heard about it (and its not my car) even my wife (who you met) was like wow that sucks to have happened to him.

Anyways, your okay so thats good and it looks like the car will be in good shape in no time. I have to admit, I pictured the damage being worse, so it was actually a releif seeing the pics now. Hope everything else comes to gether for you.

Thanks everyone, good to have some support from my 94-95 brethren:flag:

The cops were actually very cool about it, I could tell they felt bad for me. I think the fact that it happened at 1pm on a Sunday afternoon made it alot less likely that I was driving crazy...

The airbags did deploy, and the only reason it didn't get totalled is because the insurance adjuster was a long time mustang fan, who used to own a 95 GT. He said that it was very close, but in the end, the condition of the car and all the money that was obviously put into it persuaded them to fix it. I think they realized it wasn't your average old 95.

The car is getting put back to how it was before, they're getting me a brand new Cervini's hood, headlights, UPR rad cover, cobra grille emblem, the works. In the case of the headlights, the projectors I had were actually cheaper than buying brand new Cobra headlights from Ford (almost $400 for new OEM's).

I have yet to hear about what it will be counted as. I don't think it will be worded as a collision, but it was an at-fault accident. Basically, how they told me, the only way I can blame it on the animal is if I had hit it, then wrecked, and could prove the animal was the reason... So I'm gonna have to just lube up and get ready to watch my rates go sky high. Despite how high it may go, I won't drop to minimum coverage, I just have too much time and money into the car to take that chance.

The car is still sitting at the shop, awaiting the new parts to come. Till then, I'm mustangless, and I'm betting by the time I get it back it will be time to put it into storage for the winter... oh well....winter mod time I guess... I got a whole day of driving with the heads on the car before I crashed it... :nonono:

Katie was saddened by the news as well. its good hear you made it out good with the insurance company.

At least you will still have a Mustang to put up for the winter that's the good thing. I dont blame you for not having full coverage on it, its just not worth it in this case and w/ many on here. Mine is full coverage b/c its financed for 2.5 more years but even after that I'll keep it at full coverage.

Its messed up that out of all the times Ive had any kind of incident its more times then not happened w/ the Mustang and over the past 13 years of having one Ive always driven them less then my other vehicle Ive had at the time yet "crap" always seems to find us at an opportune time.
