One little point that keeps pissing me off about that catch that you guys say there was holding (which there was not, you can keep telling yourself there was to make yourself feel better). but wasn't that play 3rd down? There was still another down where the giants could have gotten a first down. So just because he made a catch like that and got the first, didn't mean they still couldn't have one down later.
Ok I want to make one thing clear, the giants played great in the playoffs last year and the giants defense played the game of their lives in the SB and they deserved the win and may have won the game without that play
BUT
that catch was a lot more than first down yardage... and there was two players holding on that play.. I rather not watch the video again but I think it was green that was being pulled from behind when he had manning in his grasp.. The reason they were not able to sack him was that a 300+ pound lineman had his arm wrapped around a pats defensive lineman (green) kind of hard to push somebody down when a guy even bigger than you is pulling on you from behind.. the giants lineman ( I think number 66 if I remember correctly) he had one arm pulling on greens right arm and that was when manning got free to make the pass.. All of this was done from BEHIND and that is holding.
How do you think manning got out of that and was able to roll out and throw that pass..
Sometimes the calls or non call in this case goes your way.. in this case it went the giants way.. But the patriots still had chances to stop them and did not do it so they lost and thats the end of it.. On the other hand the TD pass that was a game winner was the perfect call for that situation, the pats gambled on a blitz and the giants made them pay for it on that play..
But that "great" play that is shown as the highlight of that game and probably of manning's career was a desperation toss lucky ass catch that was aided by some non calls.
I understand why giants fans or patiot haters want to ignore the holding because we all know without that big play it very unlikely the giants would have had enough time to score a td.. BUT you never know if it was called back maybe the very next play might have been a long TD pass and the giants might have won anyways.
In three SB winning playoff runs the pats have had calls go their way too.. the refs are only human and mistakes are made, plus who wants to be the ref to call back what turned out to be one of the greatest passes of all time..
Every NFL game has missed calls and questionable calls.. this play happened to have missed calls and it happened to turn out to be a HUGE play..
It's really hard to see it in the angle the NFL films chose to highlight that play ( wow I am shocked) but in the angle the play was shown on tv it's obvious.
OK on to this season
I think it's time to try O'connell out, what do you guys think..
