lifting engine and tranny w/o load levler

dunno about by the intake, but i pulled mine by bolting the chains up to the header bolt holes. no leveler, but i also had a helping hand to keep the trans from swinging too wildly.

You can if you position the lift point as far forward towards the front of the engine as you can get away with...this way the trans will pull down on the back and make it easier to lift out. I'd definitely recommend a second set of hands for it just to keep it from swinging into anything.

ive done it both ways i and say take the tranny out first then pull the motor.

you have to get under the car to unbolt the tranny crossmember and etc. 4 more bolts and you can pull the tranny from the bellhousing. that way you dont to tilt the engine real high to get it out with the trans attached. and not having a load leveler will make it super hard to tilt it.

hm everywhere i've read says its always easier to take the tranny and engine out together. If I get a load leveler would it be better to take it out together then? I've never taken out the tranny, can I just use a normal jack and a piece of wood or something? And anyone have an idea of how much that weighs?

stock t5 is 90-100 lbs. a plain jack would do it if the cars on stands.

like i said before, i pulled the whold thing out with a rented crane and a buddy helping guide/lift up on the tranny. seemed a hell of a lot easier than pulling them seperate, but its up to you on how much time you wanna spend on your back under the car, it can be done both ways.

yea I am going to rent a hoist, I may get the load leveler we'll see. I think im going to try and keep the tranny in. Ill have a friend helping.

It's a piece of cake to pull the tranny out. Like mentioned you have to disconnect everything anyway so just pull the extra 4 bolts and yank it out. A t5 is only 75lbs. Just a floor jack will be fine, they're easy as hell to move around.
