I am interested in seeing what everyone has used for their clearance issues. Looking for the following info (yes, I have used the search function).

what intake are you running

inches of drop/setback from mounts, k members

inches of lift at the cowl

and of course, pics.

If I remember right the saleen cars were using 85 vert motor mounts with a slotted k member. Some people obviously slot there stock k member to do this.

I guess it really depends on what intake and valve covers you are planning on running.

Good luck!

Im using the solid motor mounts that give 1/8th clearance of my steering rack. I have a Trickflow Box R intake. I believe my hood is a 3.5" Cowl. My probl;em with alot of aftermarket hoods is that they slope down to the nose too soon. You need a hood that is at least 3.5" for the entire length of the intake.

Took me a hood or two to find the right one. Seemed most hoods cleared in the back along the fire wall....but not in the front of the intake. as i said they sloped down too soon.

mine is under my 96-98 cobra hood. i have an aje k-member and a pro products typhoon intake. we had to cut a small part of the bracing on the underside of the hood for clearance.

it has custom motor mounts that came from aje with the k-member

also, i have comp pro magnum rockers. they fit under stock height valve covers, so i don't need tall covers, so i don't need a spacer for the intake to clear the covers (which also helps with hood clearance)

Hmm didn't know the 351 had the same valve cover clearance issues that the 302 based guys have. I have probe shaft rockers and they fit under the Standard Trickflow valve covers....I guess the poly locks can interfere. I did have Comp pro magnum roller rockers on my old 302. they clear under stock valve covers if you grind away the baffles. but thats for the factory 302 cast aluminum valve covers.

I have been looking at either a tfs non box intake or a pro products hurricane efi with an elbow

I have not had experience with the PP intake...but a few others have and that intake will hurt air flow. Its good if you want to build a truck motor, want low rpm's or want a 351 that makes 302hp numbers. Pokageek on here had that intake and had to remove it for the reasons i explained.

Stock replacement polyurethane mounts, stock k-member (in these pics), 3" cowl hood. The only clearance problem was at the rear of the hood, you can see a small hole I had to cut for it to clear.

Was he using the single plane carb bases intake, or the Eddy Performer knockoff?

Thanks for the pic and video. A 3" cowl lift isn't as bad in our cars as I thought. With the right intake and a 1" setback, a 2.5" R hood might clear.

I am looking at the TFS R intake w/the 75mm upper now. Works well with the cam range, and isn't as ungodly tall as the 90mm Box version (Or the Victor EFI, for that matter). It's just a .030" windsor, 11.5 compression, XE274HR-14 cam, AFR 185's and a 3550 behind it. I would have run a custom cam and AFR 205's, but I want to keep the power down in the sub 6500 RPM range.

Venom,

Would it be possible for you to take an additional photo for me? One at fender level to tell the height of the intake at it most forward part with the hood open? That is the same external setup I am going to use, but I want to keep as low of a hood as possible (maybe a 1.5" or 2.5" Cobra R)

Also, what strut tower brace is that? Mine was missing when I bought it.

I believe it was made by Roush, I dont know if you can get them anymore.

Here are a few additional pics.

Heres my stock non s/c S351. It fits under a stock hood. Dagz is right that he used Fox vert mounts, I heard 1983 but not really sure what the diff would be? I also heard he modified the mounts....and he slotted the K member, moved the motor back a little.
