After going back and forth on what I wanted to do (turbo) or a 408 build Ive decided to keep it N/A. This is something I want to put together for next spring/early summer so as of now I want to get everything planned out as for what I'm going to need so I can get a cost est on the whole project. I dont want to get down to buying all the parts and then at the last minute getting this and that for $150 here and another $230 there when I didn't plan on it. So with that said here is the outline of the project and what I plan on buying. If I am forgetting anything please let me know. I want to get the compression to about 10:1

- CHP 408W Scat based engine kit +.030"
P4082F-SCA-30-F408 - Ford 408W Dish Top -24.0cc Scat-Based Engine Kit

- AFR 205 Heads ( I assume I want the 58cc with the pistons in that kit for higher compression?)

- Edelbrock Victor 5.8 Intake + porting by Tmoss

- Accufab 90 MM TB (converting to a fox set up)

- Using the Current FTI cam ( with a valve spring Upgrade)

- Kooks long tube headers, what size headers should I go with? (undecided on a mid pipe)

- Lifters (not sure on what I should get for lifters..suggestions??)

- Push Rods

- Roller Rockers (currently have Trick Flow 1.7's, are these fine to reuse?)

- Engine gasket kit

- Injectors, Currently have #36's, should I upgrade?

- High flow oil pump, Ford Racing

- Water pump, reusing my stewart High Flow

- Reusing current valve covers

- Reusing timing chain, brand new as of last summer

That's everything I can think of as far as stroking my 351 to a 408. If there is anything that I am forgetting that I should get let me know. The bold text is areas I have questions on.

Thanks

Travis

Lifters it depends on how high its going to be rev'd and the spring press.

I would say step up to 42's

Headers your going to prob end up wanting the larger prim. tube long tubes.

Might want to piece together the gasket kit...depending on the HG and intake gasket you will want to run to best match the parts. It will probably be fairly hard to get all the gaskets you "want" to run in one single kit.

IF your not running a turbo or pan fed supercharger you may not need a high volume oil pump either. You need one that can support your RPM range and if its at or around 6k a std. volume should work fine. What you will be looking for is 10psi for every 1k rpm generally.

These are the springs that Ed recomended that I get w/ upgrading to the AFR 205's and using my current cam

Beehive Valve Spring Kit #BB2:
PAC Racing 1520 Beehive Nitrided Big Block Valve Springs
.650” Lift Capable
Chromemoly Retainers
Hardened Valve Locks
Hardened Spring Locators
Viton Valve Seals

to much more stuff to upgrade. I wouldn't be able to run that much boost b/c the stock pistons would not take it so Id have to run it consertivity and I can get just about the same power out of doing a 408 stroker. Should not to be to hard to reach the 420-430 RWHP range. I would be at 450-500 w/ a turbo at a higher cost. As cool as turbo's are its even better to just say its a stock 302 w/ an aftermarket intake and heads :D

Yep, actually Chris originally gave me their number. The fitment is excellent and the company is hands down a great place to deal with not jerks like some other places. Props goes to Chris on this one. :nice::SNSign:

I think Im going to do what I originally wanted to do and that was buy a 408 Stroker engine from RNH performance. I figure by the time my engine is pulled out and its checked for cracks and the machine work is done + the cost of the stroker kit I'll be at the price of an RNH Short block anyway. This way at least I get a new engine as well.

For those of you who have had 351W blocks stroked out what was the cost anyway for the machine work?
