I was searching for a bumper cap, LH fender, hood, and header panel that goes behind headlights, along with a LH complete headlight with parking lamp and sidemarker light.
I looked at the prices with this company and they are ALOT lower than OEM parts from a junkyard. The prices can be double the amount.
Can you really tell a difference in reference to the money difference between OEM junkyard parts and reproduction/aftermarket parts from this company?
For an example a CAPA certified fender is 89.00 from LateModelRestoration. If you go look for OEM it can be $600+ if the dealership has it. Or it is less at a junkyard.

Are aftermarket parts that meet the OEM specifications that bad as the price gap is very big?

I'm assuming you're referring to Latemodel Restoration Supply? If so, they're legit, and so are their parts. You might see different fitment between used OEM parts, as much as you might from aftermarket. As long as you're good at fitting them, it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I guess that would be up to the body repair and paint shop if we bought all those parts for around $1,000 but everybody shop has warned me that they prefer to use OEM new if available or junk yard OEM as most of the parts made for this car are discontinued. The bodyshops told me it is usuallly fit and quality that's the problem with these aftermarket new parts. LatemodelRestoration does have better prices by far. They sell a CAPA certified hood for $89.95 whereas OEM is like $641 if available from dealer otherwise 200 to 350 from junk yard.
A bumper cover from LMR is $169 but from dealership if available is $661 or $200-$350+ and up from junk yards
We have bought OEM parts from LMS that were fine but they weren't replacements body parts which is completely different as fitting wasn't an issue.

dont know if your car is a gt or not but the rear bumper cover from LMR dont have the "mustang gt" embossed on the back. that said, the ones Ive seen that is the only difference and the guys Ive talked to that have installed them have not had a problem.
man thats crazy for a OEM hood, you can buy a 03/04 cobra style fiberglass hood for a fox for that much.

No not a rear bumper but the front.
It is a 1988 Ford Mustang GT that's going to need a front bumper cap, LH fender, hood, header panel for behind headlights and a LH headlight, parking light and sidemarker amber light.

Most likely the parts can be found at a junk yard which will be alot less in $$$from dealership besides alot of these parts are now discontinued and you cannot get them brand new for this car anymore so you have to go aftermarket reproduction like LMR or junk yard OEM. People just keep telling me to keep away from aftermarket parts/reproduction parts.
But LMR seems to be pretty good company. So I would hope those body parts will make the car look like brand new factory.

It's $135 truck freight for hood. But I would order all 3 or 4 items like the fender, bumper cap, and hood so then I only have to pay that $135.00 once.

So that most likely was a reproduction hood and the fault of the shipping company not LMR. Otherwise how was the quality of the hood? Just like OEM?


I had trouble with their aftermarket door actuators. They don't last long. One didn't even last one year maybe 6 to 8 months then went kaput.

Was it that CAPA certified replacement fender they sell for 89.95?
Same thing on the hood replacement for $214.
Were the parts thinner / lighter or anything like that?

You need to go to a junk yard where YOU pull the parts yourself. The prices are literally a FRACTION of what you would pay for at LMR or from a Junkyard that doesn't let you pull the parts yourself. As an example, I just got a complete black interior for a little over $120 and a Saleen spoiler for $25. I dont need a fender, hood, or bumper for my car but I could imagine the JY asking anywhere from $30-$50 a piece.

The JY that I go to is one of the biggest in CA and specializes in domestic cars. They have hundreds of cars there and when I last went I saw about 5 or 6 foxes that had those parts. If you're willing to spend the extra time and pull the parts yourself it would really be worth it to make the trip.

We checked what we could find and nothing is that low in cost. The lowest cost found was on a front bumper cap for GT for $100 at a junkyard. For the most part the junkyard prices were still a little more than LMR even though junkyard parts are OEM.

The fenders I bought were the $90 ones and the seemed IDENTICAL to the 91-93 fenders.
The hood was identical too but the second time I ordered the 1.5" Mach ram air hood and loved it much more. If you wanted to get a nicer hood or a different nose then I highly reccomend Cervinis. Flawless fit and finnish and they require almost no prep work before paint.
This was the Cervini hood and the nose is a LMR replica. Unfortunatly they didnt use a flex agent at the shop that painted it so the paint chipped right away. Both fenders are LMR repos as well, the $90 ones.

And this is the OEM style hood from LMR after itwas on the car for about a year and TONS of track time.

Yes, it was the fault of the shipping company. I don't know about the quality of the hood because every time the truck came to the body shop and they saw the shape of the hood, they sent it back.

No longer true...LRS, foxbody resto, cjpony to name a few now have the GT rear bumper cover made from original ford tooling with "Mustang GT" embossed into it. I just ordered some stuff from lrs and from talking with sales guy gt side skirts are hopefully soon to follow.

Just wanted to chime in, adhesion was your problem, flex agent only keeps the paint pliable for a short period of time so that you can assemble without having the chance of the paint cracking. Flex eventually dissapates from the paint over time. I know its way off topic but I just wanted to say something cause many people think thats why paint chips/falls off bumpers. Its all in the prep.

Thank you this is very useful info since it is from the same company LMR. Does the ram air hood really work or is it for show?

The driver side fender apron is discontinued and no one sells it so it's a junkyard piece.
I may also need to get a new radiator support with a new header panel that goes behind the headlights. Unless the radiator support can be bent back into shape instead.

I dont know how else I could put it. They are IDENTICAL to the Ford pieces.... well one exception. On the inner lip of the OEM finder there is a stamp in the steel. The new ones didnt have it and I cant even remember what the stamp said but I remember going over them and trying to find a difference and could not. Although it required less shims to install as well so I guess they fit better.

As for the ram air hood, it was functional and thats why I got it. I hate fake scoops on cars. When I had my Terminator I was always so tempted to drill holes under the side scoops and make brake vents. But Cervinis makes the box cover for the ram air and includes a K&N filter but you need the stock air box lower half.

PS: Good luck on the fender skirts. You can see the orange car dont have them cause I could never find them anywhere.

I like that hood with the open holes but in my case they would just be that open holes going no where.
