i want to buy a power plus intake manifold soon for my 94 stang. its only 300 dollars and it says it offers the same amount of horsepower as a edelbrock rpm intake so how much horsepower would that actually be? around 20hp? thanks

Your heads, cam, intake should match for the best efficiency of making power. Combining parts that work in different "rpm windows" make less power than they should.

Im not gonna say to not buy the typhoon, but just dont expect it to perform at its best. But the good thing is later on when u upgrade the heads, your intake is already set to go.

Think of your final combination you'd like to have....and work towards it.

I'd be willing to bet in this economy, you could probably get your hands on an Edelbrock Performer for about the same price used. I had a performer on my last car with pretty much stock motor and I loved it! It definately had better low end than the stock manifold and it pulled nicely through the RPM range.

I hear mixed reviews on the Typhoon.. I believe it's a gamble as to whether you get a good one or one that needs a little work before installation.

Good luck!

I got my polished typhoon used for $200 shipped.

And if u want a performer...then u dont "want" a typhoon. If u want a performer RPM...then u can consider a typhoon. Apples to apples.

Everyone says typhoons can come rough....but has anyone proved u need to correct one that has flaws? Before and after dyno/times down a track? Its good to say its in tip top shape, but at the end of the day if its only a small amount of HP thats affected.......u have to ask yourself does it really matter

Just looking for a bit more than people saying "oh its a gamble and u might have to correct a few things in the runners" and more like someone who ran it out of the box, had poor performance, went back corrected something, and got a gain out of it.

Not so much in the runners, I've seen first hand people install these intakes and not have them seal on the heads for crap. They ended up having to get the lower machined a little so it was flat.

And I understand that the Typhoon is a direct copy of the Performer RPM, but it was suggested and is common knowledge that the standard Performer is a better compliment to stock and near stock combinations. Unfortunately, Professional Products are too stupid to realize this and go ahead and offer a Peformer version of the upper intake. Either that or Edelbrock warned them to stay away from their designs or else...lol

Both intakes aren't that hot. You can pick up a used Cobra or GT-40 for $200. Much better bargain I think.

An eddy performer has been proven many times to be a better flowing intake than any of the GT40 style intakes.

It's all about cost and what he want's to do. If he wants to tool around in a mostly stock ride, then the GT40 style intakes will do just fine. I personally had an Edelbrock Perf. on a N/A setup and a 15psi Vortech system and I loved it both ways..:nice:

Not trying to stir the pot or anything :nono:

but

I found a different kind of experience with my Edel intake :)

All I had to do was bolt it on

No valve cover issues what so ever
No spacer needed between the upper and lower

I was told that quality is poor on the typhoons in general. The builder who did my neighbors motor said that alot of guys are bringing these intakes in with the heads to get done because of the price. Issues being sealing to the heads, extremely rough casting, and damaged threads that have to be helicoiled or tapped. Then on the elbow for the sn95 I saw in another thread that the opening narrows down. That is what I've heard.

My experience exactly, and I bought mine from ebay for $182!

Yes indeed that's exactly what I've also heard. PP quality seems to be hit-and-miss.

No, I totally understand, it's a decent intake. It's just that you have to pull that side plate off everytime you pull the upper intake, and you have to order a special gasket for the upper to lower. I can have my Holley intake off in 6 minutes, and I can get a new gasket with one trip to the parts store. The Cobra and GT-40 intakes are just as easy.
