most cost effective way to reach atleast 300 at the wheels

thats not going to happen with stock pistons. i doubt that decking the heads will significantly raise your compression.

stock bottom end is 9-1 comp with 65cc chambers, i went to a 58cc and then milled them .060, that should put me around a 54cc chamber. so around 10-1 comp, i still had a stock cam as well. (-4) it ran out pretty fast. it never got dyno'd but i put 7 car lenghts on a 280rwhp 4.6 03 gt with gears and tires..

if i would have put a good cam in that car it would have made 300 so easy..

you got all that stuff for less than 3k? thats pretty good. what kinda bolt ons were with that.

It was a bit more than $3k for the top end combo, but worth every penny! Here's my old mod list I dug up...

-Jay Allen custom billet cam
-TFS TW 170cc heads, bowl blend, milled to 58cc combustion chambers with ferrea 6000 series valves
-TFS Track Heat intake manifold
-Comp Cams 1.6 roller rockers and hardened pushrods
-BBK 70mm throttle body
-C&L 76mm MAF
-FRPP 24# injectors
-3:73 gears
-BBK 1-5/8" long tube headers
-MAC Prochamber
-Spintech Prostreet mufflers
-3g alternator
-BBK CAI
-MGW shifter
-autometer gauges
-'04 Cobra seats (front and rear)
... and more I'm forgetting now.

so the combo you recommended to me, the 58 cc gt40x's, tfs2 cam, ect, is that almost 350 or just over 300? im guessing around 325 like the anderson kit?

so for a smooth power band thats road course friendly what setup would you go with

not a definite number as you might make 321.88rwhp. but i would say the 315 range.. that would easily put you at a low 12, with the driver mod and some tires.. but i dont see that number going up until you put longtubes on it..

the anderson kit will make around the same, that cam needs a tune though, they told me it would have very poor driveability without a tune..

I think you're on the right track with all the bolt ons. But I think you will need head work as well. 25thMustang is right tho....HP is everything. His car is running mid 12's on a GT40 motor. Most guys making 400-500RWHP can only get into mid 12's because they can't hook up or drive. Brian's car does both.

GT40 combo? Someone put heads on my car? :bs:

:D E7s all the way on my car.

My brother has a set of GT40Ps on his stock bottom end car. His have a valve job, angle mill, 1.84/1.54 valves and matching springs to his cam. With rockers, custom cam, untouched Cobra intake (off a 93 Cobra even), TB, MAF, 24 lbers, LTs, Xpipe mufflers, 4.10s and a stock T5 it has been 11.86 @ 113+. It made 313 at the tires I believe.

With the stock cam it made just shy of 300, I want to say 298 or so. Went 12.11 @ 111+ in that configuration. Might have had an 11.9x, but the cam change happened before the 11s.

His GT40Ps had a bit of money into them, which if your not hell bent on track numbers out of those heads, I would say step up to a better head to start with. We run crappy heads (I run E7s at mid 12s, brother runs GT40Ps at high 11s, father runs AFR185s at high 9s) at this point to basically say, we did it. We are leaving timeslip on the table, but have fun trying to go faster with weak, crappy parts. If this isn't your mentality, it might be best to either bolt on the $300-400 GT40s and stick with them that way, or spend the extra for a good aluminum head.

My honest opinion, as most wont put the time into getting a GT40 or E7 combo to work right.

When it comes down to it, if a GT40X will make 300 rwhp, and a TFS will make 310... is that worth it to you?

Are you planning to keep these heads stock, or work on them down the line?

Are you going with a stroker 351 Windsor down the road?

These were reasons I weighed and stuck with E7s. I saved money, which when I was 17 was a huge deal to me. I was able to race in the class I wanted, and I could see my goals reached. I knew the heads wouldn't be the be all end all, so for me keeping the cheap stock junk was just the best bet.

I think you should stick to a budget. GT40s and 40Ps are good heads, even stock. Get them cheap, run them with a good combo and see how you like it?

im just looking to do it all once. i dont wanna toy with it down the road really. i think x's are plenty for me, if they get me close or over 300 then thats what i want. 20 extra hp from x's to afr's or tfs's isnt worth it to me. i just want to do it once, with new heads preferably, and be done with it for the most part. i dont really plan on stroking it either.

i would do a simple gt40p combo but then im afraid id get it in my head to shoot for 300+ and then id be taking it all apart again down the road.
